I didn't really know what to expect from this book. We meet Mary Russell as a fifteen-year-old girl who is reeling from the death of her parents and brother, sent to live in the countryside with an aunt she hates. While out wandering the woods, she runs into an older man, and learns he is the retired detective, Sherlock Holmes. He befriends her and soon she's assisting with his hobbies - beekeeping, among other things - and she spends hours and hours in his home.

She then goes away...more
