Whilst not as gripping as the Nursery Crimes or Thursday Next stories, I found Ther Last Dragonslayer and enjoyable read.
Kazam was a very intriguing world. To some extent it reminded me of Terry Pratchett's world, only with less adult humour. I liked the comparisons and contrasts with our own world, and really felt like I was exploring new territory together with Jennifer Strange.

Now that I have the first three books in the Chronicles of Kazam, I finally got started on reading them and I'm so glad I did! I've been a fan of Jasper Fforde since I read The Eyre Affair. I was a little leery of this book at first when I saw that it was classified as a Young Adult book. Now that I've read it, I'm convinced that the only thing that got it that classification was the fact the main character, Jennifer Strange, is 16 years old. Wonderful and whimsical. All the hallmarks of a Fforde. Jennifer Strange is a wonderful heroine, like Thursday Next, and one that has many adventures to come. Even of they are at the expense of a Shades of Grey sequel.

Jasper Fforde is my favorite writer. I'll read anything that he writes. Cookbook? Field Guide to Insects of the Northwest? Sure - I'll I give it a shot if he wrote it. That being said I found this book less entertaining than any of his others. There were less hidden gems and laugh out loud moments of wit.
