This was a quick and light read. I liked that the book is all written in the form of letters. It's about an author who is pondering what will be the topic of her next book, when she learns about a Literary Society that was formed by the local people in Guernsey on the Channel Islands during the German occupation of World War II. The entire book consists of letters from the author to her editor, to the folks of Guernsey, to her best friend and letters from these people to her. The format makes ...more

What a wonderful, wonderful book! I hate leaving these characters behind - I want to know how their lives turn out! It's written as a series of letters during the time just after WWII's end. The letters enable you to get to know the characters so well and so personally. You can read the other reviews for synopsis details. I just loved this read and can't wait to share it! This will be my Christmas book for everyone on my list this year!

When all was said and done I really liked this book and was sad it was over, BUT I didn't start to really get into it until at least halfway..... It took me forever to read and I'm glad I did, but the style in which it is written (though letters) was tedious at first. I do recommend but would caution that you won't fall in love with it at first.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It is one of my new favorites and I can't buy my own copy soon enough. I would recommend to anyone who knows how to read. For a more eloquent review you should pop over to Cindy's profile. She took the words right out of my mouth.
