What a wonderful book! I devoured it in a day, drawn to and delighted by the characters as I am with Maeve Binchy's. Adding to my appreciation was the subject matter ... the grim realities of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII, but told with a spareness and simplicity that was both moving and soothing and further relieved by the charm of the characters. The entire work is a series of letters, a style I had never been a fan of previously, but one that worked perfectly her...more
