"Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book...this offshoot is horrible...and yet I can't stop reading..." — Sep 03, 2009 05:44AM

I haven't read Pride and Prejudice, but this picks up on the wedding day of Darcy and Elizabeth and follows them on their wedding tour through Europe. The majority of the book is lightly hinting at Darcy's secret, being a vampire, and Elizabeth's struggles with his odd behavior. I like how Amanda Grange didn't take classic characters and make them unrecognizable with a thick paranormal twist. It's kind of like Dracula, not outlandish or theatrical. It's like a good scary monster movie, sometimes...more

The letter from the heroine to her sister before the first chapter does an excellent job of setting a mood of foreboding as we enter into the cheerful first chapter where she and her sister are married on the same day.
Although it's part and parcel of the genre, I have a hard time with the doe-eyed, subservient heroine whose doubts linger unanswered. It seems to me she could be a stronger person and that Mr. Darcy could use more craft in distracting her from her doubts. It would mak...more

I am a sucker for anything Pride and Prejudice related. However, I regret the time I spent reading this instead of Conroy's new book. There is nothing good to say about this book. The characters have the same names and there are a few references to the original story, but at the end of the day it is just a poorly written vampire story, lite on the vampires and even thinner on actual plot. Nothing happens for about 200 pages and then it all gets wrapped up in about 5...

To put it bluntly, MDV started off slowly and never picked up. It's just... boring. Nothing really happens. At all.
What's most disappointing is that the potential was there, with plenty of room for improvement, but it completely fell flat. I think this book would have been much better had it been told from Darcy's POV.

This book definitely kept me interested, and I loved reading about Darcy and Elizabeth. It just didn't have quite the voice that Jane Austen gave them. Definitely worth reading, especially if you like vampires, or are a Jane Austen fan.

recommends it for:
Pride & Prejudice and/or vampire fanatics
I really really really really enjoyed this book!! I was hoping it would end differently though. Don't get wrong, loved the ending, but yeah. Definitely give it a read if you love Pride & Prejudice and vampires! :) Loved how she used the old/traditional vampires. Great read. And I have to say that Mr. Darcy made a great vampire!!

I so wanted to enjoy this book but, having to wait almost 280 pages to find out that Darcy is a vampyre was just to long of a time. I also did not enjoy the ending of the book. It was just not how I wished it to end.
