I really enjoyed this book - it had that great Gothic sensibility to it, all dark and "oh woe is me" delicate heroine. My only complaint is that once the story was over, it dragged on with pages of "I bet you're wondering what happened to x minor character!". Actually, no, I wasn't it. The story is over, I'm done. But that's a small quibble, when the rest of the book was just delicious.

I had difficulty starting this book and continuing after putting the story down. The author's gothic writing style took me some time to get a rhythm with. But, once I did - I was pulled right in and couldn't put it down. I felt Setterfield was able to transport you right beside Vita as she unfolded her tale from the beginning. I was truly disappointed when each of Vida's story times came to and end. The plot was thick with secrets and it took me through to the end to uncover the mystery.

I greatly enjoyed this book! From the very beginning, I was drawn in to the tale; I found myself often thinking at work how I couldn't wait to get home to read more! I like that the voice of the narrator is very authentic - it obviously reverberates with the style of 19th century writers, which is natural if our reader is an avid fan of those books. Definitely not a book for just anyone, but I think anyone who is a fan of books - not just reading, but BOOKS - would enjoy it.

I loved this book! Draws you quickly into the story and you hunger for more.

Wow...just...wow. This book was SOO good. I found myself sucked right in at the beginning, and the main characters to me were intriguing because they both LOVED books. I can't even explain why I loved this book, I just did. The plot was crazy and jumped between the past and present a little bit (because the story was Margaret writing the story of Vida Winter's past). There are extra characters thrown in, and it's all one big confusing mess...until the very end. I loved it.

A beautiful tale wove within a story! Wasn't expecting to really enjoy this novel until I got past the first chapter and then I couldn't stop reading it. The prose was elegant!
