It might be called the political philosophy of consent. This philosophy may be either deontological or utilitarian, and it espouses a constellation of related ideas including: individual self-ownership, private property, the rule of law (not men), strict constitutional limits on governmental powers (cf. the American Bill of Rights) including freedom of religion, speech, trade, and voluntary association. It seeks to protect the rights of minorities and individuals even from democratic majority rule. Classical liberalism opposes itself to slavery, aggression, totalitarianism, Marxism, socialism, communism, fascism, nationalism, imperialism, social-democracy, and theocracy.
