Naji al-Ali's Hanthala/Handala (Arabic: حنظلة‎) is is a beloved icon for Palestinians across the world .

He is depicted as a ten-year old boy. The figure turned his back to the viewer , and clasped his hands behind his back. The artist explained that the ten-year old represented his age when forced to leave Palestine and would not grow up until he could return to his homeland; his turned back and clasped hands symbolised the character's rejection of "outside solutions". Handala wears ragged clothes and is barefoot, symbolising his allegiance to the poor. In later cartoons, he is actively participating in the action depicted not merely observing it.

Handala became the signature of Naji al-Ali's cartoons and remains an iconic symbol of Palestinian identity and defiance

The term MENA; is an acronym for "Middle East and North Africa". The term covers an extensive region, extending from Morocco to Iran, including the majority of both the Middle Eastern and Maghreb countries. The term is roughly synonymous with the term the Greater Middle East (which is also sometimes taken to include Pakistan, Afghanistan, or both).also Ethiopia is not usually included .

The Greater Middle East is a political term coined by the Bush administration[ to englobe together various countries, pertaining to the Muslim world, specifically Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Various Central Asian countries are sometimes also included. Some speakers may use the term to denote areas with significant Muslim majorities, but this usage is not universal. The Greater Middle East is sometimes referred to as "The New Middle East".
