Revolutionary Petunias

[close] Inspired by Alice Walker's collection of poems "Revolutionary Petunias", centered around women who are oppressed by the men in their lives as well as by American society, which has historically been a bastion of men.

Building off of the notion of embattled souls who remain painfully committed to beauty and to love even while facing the firing squad. We, Iresha Picot and Shanika Thomas, have created an online reading circle for Black Women to connect through the work of Black Women for the healing of Women through literary texts.

In Revolutionary Petunias, flowers symbolize a commitment to beauty that seems revolutionary in the face of the ugliness that so often attends Black Women's lives. That is what we hope to do with this online circle.
