Maybe it's just plain old animal attraction that pulls D-503 to I-330. That sounds too simple (not intellectual enough) but if he and we are looking for a reason (for everything), animal attraction has pretty much no rational explanation.
Having just read all these posts: thank you guys. I had reached a point in We where I was going to give it up. I'd liked it (especially the scenes in the Ancient House), but I'd come to a point in a chapter where I'd lost interest and I was going to start another book. But these notes here make me want to forge ahead.I don't want to give anything away but I will hint at a detail, a line I like having to do with when D-503 sees a doctor and the doctor diagnoses him. It's my favorite line so far but it might be later than chapter 10 so I won't spoil it here. Let me know when you get to it.
I'm all set to start. I got a copy from the library, translated by Natasha Randall. I'd never heard of this before and I had been considering to reread 1984 and/or Brave New World but now I don't "have" to, haha.
Authors I like (besides the classic ones):
I. Grekova
Nina Berberova
Ludmila Ulitskaya
Olga Grushin: The Dreamlife of Sukhanov
And my all-time favorite too Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita
