OK, mes amies, I have to take a LOA now b/c I already have homework and this is just orientation. Law school is going to kick my ass. (But I am going to kick its right back!) Maybe I can check in here on weekends, but mostly I'll probably be limited to popping in on Facebook in the AM or PM. I will miss y'all, so check in with me there!

Some other (factual and not bigoted) information is available here, Knarik, if you're interested:

But that's exactly what you need to understand, Knarik. It IS about equality. I do not have the same rights as you do, and when you say that you don't think marriage equality should be legal you are saying that you don't think I should have the same rights as you do. Again, that book will give you a really good overview of exactly the inequality you are supporting.

Then you contradict yourself. If we--you are speaking with one of us metaphorically diseased persons now--are equal, then we deserve equal rights. Obviously, you don't think I am equal b/c you don't think I should have the same Constitutional rights as you (if you have citizenship). You seem to be an otherwise very intelligent and inquistive critical thinker, Knarik. I hope you will take this opportunity to learn more factual information about sexuality and equality.
Yay! I knew someone (I was betting Jackie or Bunny) would have the answer!
And phew, I totally don't mind eating pearly pieces of cassava.

Ahhh, true that about the kitty body language, Jacks! (But my pessimism tells me he's still not gonna make it.)
Knarik, homosexuality is a natural form of human sexual expression. Some cultures embrace it, others (particularly those based on the Abrahamic religions) are very homophobic. Marriage equality does nothing to stop hetero couples from forming families. Many gay and lesbian couples themselves raise children and contribute to the "base of society" which homophobes are so worried about destroying. But you mostly need to understand is that this is not about your personal biases. This is about civil rights. Marriage in this country is a legal arrangement between two adults and the state. It confers some 1100 rights and responsibilities upon married couples that cohabiting couples do not enjoy (or get burdened with, depending on one's perspective). To deny some couples those rights and responsibilities is very simply a violation of their civil rights. I highly recommend Evan Wolfson's Why Marriage Matters America, Equality, and Gay People's Right to Marry to educate yourself about this subject.
OK, this isn't about ice cream, but i hate starting new threads.
I just ate some tapioca. It seems basically to be vanilla pudding with little things in it. I would probably be better of not knowing, but what are those little things?
(I could google it, but I so enjoy partaking of the TC wisdom.)

See, the picture by itself doesn't make me feel like the kitten is a superhero at all. It looks to me like the kitten is DOOMED!!! (Then again, I'm a pessimist.)

Bwahahahaha!!!!
Lgbt equality challenges people on a lot of levels, gender, sexuality, religion. That's a lot of deep, deep programming to overcome. Legal rights can be fought for and education campaigns can try to overcome bigotry, but we are stuck right now in a generational gap. Even among conservative religious folks, younger people are much more in favor of equal rights than their parents and grandparents. So, on some levels, yeah, a lot of people just have to die off... Of course, that's no reason not to keep on calling them out on their bigotry.

An article about another of those roaming free medical hospitals (the same as the one in NC or VA where that insurance exec turned whistleblower went and saw the human toll of the system he was profiting from?). Someone should load up all the hysterical townhall yellers and make them work a week at one of these things.

Oh yeah. 'Cause corporations aren't beholden to anyone but shareholders, so of course they have the best interests of the public at heart. Really.

It's hard to fault them for that, even if it's not right.
My stepmother said something sorta like this about my father when he was so obstinate in his disapproval of me when I came out. (And he's not even religious.) She just said something like she admired him for standing up for something he believed in, for having the "courage of conviction." Well, I call bullshit on that, and on your family's as well. Religion shouldn't get a free pass on bigotry just b/c it's religion. Bigots shouldn't not be called bigots just b/c they're otherwise very loving and compassionate people.
