9859 I WAS a thirty a long time ago. Perhaps I held on tight?

I think I'll try to find a copy of Xanadu. I'm pretty sure my daughter and her friends would get a kick out of it.

9859 Sputtering and coughing after trying to hold it too long? Me too.

9859 I have to say that this is once instance where I love the book AND the movie, but for very different reasons. It's best for me to see them as seperate things entirely. Much like King and Kubrick's versions of The Shining, or Benchley and Spielberg's versions of Jaws. Both are excellent for their own reasons.

9859 Great (second) thoughts Phillip. I've only seen it once, but I would like to see it again.

9859 I thought Christopher had flown the pod off the mothership, and that's why he knew where it was and made his "home" above it. It didn't seem any of the other aliens were aware of it's location. I didn't give it a lot of thought, but it didn't seem to me that it "fell" off. It would have been too convenient for Chris to just happen to locate it.

9859 I agree these should have been extras with the movie DVD, but am also glad they didn't try to squeeze Black Freighter into the framework of the actual film. The story is incredibly haunting, and of curse tragic. It would have been less so, if cut to the 10 minutes they could have devoted to it in the movie.

I bought this as soon as it was available, and was not sorry! Sally Jupiter walking out on the interview was almost worth the $20!

9859 I don't even know if I can watch the movie. I was close to huffing tears for so much of the novel, but was still unable to stop reading. It was, literally, work to keep going.

Thanks, Sam:)

9859 Alex, I'm not capable of writing such an insightful review, but I completely understand you saying you can still enjoy a film you rate poorly. I do it all the time. With books, too! For instance, I hated reading The Road, but gave it four stars for the emotions it evoked in me. I would rate Starship Troopers (the film) as a 1 star movie, but that doesn't stop me from pausing on any channel, where it happens to be playing, for a few minutes entertainemnt. Mindless entertainment, I admit, but entertainment none the less.

9859 I just saw it today, and I thought it was the "smartest" sci-fi flick I have seen in years! It had action for people who see movies just for that, but there was also SO much to think about. The look and style was excellent, because a lot of it was "news footage", interviews and security film, so it had a sense of realism that is usually lacking. I also liked how so many questions were left unanswered. If aliens landed, realistically, we wouldn't have all the answers, so that was great.

9859 I like this book a lot, but because I do, I haven't really wanted to see the movie. My son is really into filim making and has actually rotoscoped a few videos, but, like Alex, unless the movie changed from reality(straight video) to LSDity(rotoscoping) I just don't see what purpose it could serve.

As far as Keanu goes, he fits certain rolls simply because he IS so inexpressive. I think he was the right guy for Neo, and I think he is probably, for the same reason, good as Arctor.

9859 That is so freakin' weird Angie! You WOULD find something like that.:)

9859 Well, thank you, Shannon. Until the day I die!

9859 I really love looking at these old posters, especially theones I have actually seen. It's crazy the way two posters for the same movie give off different vibes.

It IS making me feel a little old.

9859 That seriously sounds like the plot of a book. Stephen King, perhaps?

Thanks, Angie

9859 Where would they put a sign like that for the drive-in? Ours is just a huge marquee, no cool pictures.

9859 RedBox has only pretty recent movies, that's the big problem I find. The movies I hear about on GRs are older, so harder to find.

9859 I am a dinosaur as well, because I remember loving Krull. I haven't seen it in ages, though.

Hey, the upside to being so old, is that with senility and all, if we watch it again, it will seem NEW!!!!
