The first book was pure torture. I disliked Bella's thoughts and actions so much that on several occasions the only thing that stopped me from throwing the book to the wall was that it was borrowed from the library. I struggled through the whole series because of my sick urge to know what happens so I could at least say I read them and didn't like them instead of just dismissing them as something unreadable without ever even opening them. I gotta say it'll be a while before I will be genuinely interested in anything vampire-related again.

970 Just finished Alcott's Little Women. The only copy available from the library was the two-parter so next up is Good Wives.

970 Starting Alcott's Little Women tomorrow. I need something that doesn't require heavy lifting after two 600-page books, phew!

I loved the end but it didn't salvage the whole book for me.

970 Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald. Somehow I was expecting something more epic. Three stars: I loved the beginning and the end but the middle dragged for me.

100 pages left. I'm sorry to say my expectations for this book were too high since it's not gripping me like I hoped it would. But I'm going to finish it, probably tonight.

Great book! Be sure to look for the 1995 film starring James Earl Jones after finishing the book."

Thanks, I'll be sure to search for it since I loved the book!

970 Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald. I'm about halfway now and it seems nothing much has really happened in the past hundred pages.

970 Next up: Alan Paton's Cry, The Beloved Country.

970 Just finished The Poisonwood Bible. A little long-winded but I enjoyed it.

One can subscribe to receive an email that will be sent out a specified time before the group read day comes. I received the same email as Will but GR has been having email trouble for the past few months so that's nothing to do with the group alone but GR.

That section was also my favourite. I'm just now entering the world of scifi, and that unexpected "exposure" to it was really fascinating. I also like the God aspect in the sixth story (I have a weird relationship with religion) but the language in the story was really difficult to read. (Might have been the translation.)

970 I made an Excel sheet out of the 2008 edition (year, author, English(/original title), original language, Finnish title, read or not), shows my current total is only 23. But it's easy enough to just pick what to read next and I'll know right away if there's a Finnish translation or not. (Well, most likely I will.)

Also on my TBR list. I hope to read it soon.
970 mara, How long are we voting? If Smiley's People wins, can we worry about it then? So far Trainspotting is taking the lead.
970 mara wrote: "The trouble is that I don't remember what the original choices were, ack! I will just have to post 3 new, no biggie..."

I think you accidentally created duplicate polls for October.
970 I don't know why but our library only has Ghost Road. I'm not sure why they've only got the last part of the trilogy but I assumed that it wasn't necessary to read the first two. But I'm game either way, I'll go with the majority vote.

970 Just finished Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. That was epic and complex and I don't think I've ever read something like that before.

I'm reading that at the moment. Really enjoying it. "

I've just met Frobisher, so far I'm enjoying it too. :)
