967 Society is in a very apocalyptic state right now, which is why...nope, I'll resist pimping the book for now. But, we're in a constant state of flux and in the back of our heads we're scared to death of the next new thing, which is where all these fears come from. That's why I always feel hopeful when I write about one apocalypse or another. Death is change and a change will do us good. That's also why we can't help but be interested in apocalyptic fiction. The chance to think "well, it won't be this bad" or "it is this bad" or "I'm glad somebody else sees it's this bad and is hoping for a change" is a great luxury for people.

967 True, but using any cycle of time as grounds for determining a literal end of the world is arbitrary and absurd.

967 Before Mad Max, I had no clues that mohawks would be so essential for post-apocalyptic survival.

967 THANK YOU! The word cycle is the important part. Fear of the apocalypse at the end of the Mayan calendar cycle is like believing it will come every December.

967 I read (apparently falsely) in a book on Horror and Sci-fi film history that it was based on the Chrysalids. Then again, the author made several other mistakes. If that's the case, then I should read both of them.

967 One of the great ones is that shown in H.G Wells' the Time Machine. An iconic dark future if ever I saw one. I haven't gotten ahold of the Chrysalids yet, but I've been meaning to. Day of the Triffids is such a strange, chilling movie and it's based on the Chrysalids.
