I finished 'Chez Moi' last week - it's a bit out there but I liked it - the language was different and beautiful. Now I'm reading a very funny mystery - Thus was Adonis murdered - and I'm liking it very much! I keep laughing and laughing in the train.
I'm glad to hear your opinion on The Secret Life of Bees - I have it on my TBR pile but don't know when I'll get to it (have two challenges going on and I need to read more book of the Author Challenge if I want to finish it by the end of the year.)
For V, I read Celestine Vaite's Frangipani. Great book. I also read Amanda Quick for Q...OK read I thought, but it fit the challenge because I've never read her before. If you want another Q choice (and wouldn't mind Historical Romance) you could always go with Julia Quinn. She's better.
For U, I'm going with Updike and Xiaolong for X.
I finished Hotel Transylvania today. It was a good, quick read but I don't know if I'd really get into the rest of the series.
Loooove P&P. My favorite Austen novel...sigh...
You're making me feel bad, Kathy. I still haven't completed one book from this challenge and I was the one to suggest it! I started Tom Sawyer but had to return it to the library (was reading several books at once and couldn't get through it.) I could always start Emma but as I really love Austen, I'll decided to start with one of the longest - The Count of Montecristo. I just requested it from the Library so I'll start on it within the week.
Now I know the challenge I'll do when I'm done with mine. This is very nice, Cynthia. I don't think I'll get to it this summer but maybe later. I recently purchased Grant's memoirs and I'll use it for this!
That's an awesome challenge, Carolyn. I've been trying to incorporate some of these books in my challenges (I even have a shelf call 'In my TBR pile 4ever, LOL!) but I won't still be done with them. Sigh...I think that's the next challenge I'll start when I'm done with the ones I'm doing now!
I know, I know, Kathy. Hahahaha! My original number was 10 but then I thought of the people that are doing other challenges (me included!)and some classics are long, long! (DQ and Montecristo are at around 1200 pages.) But you're right, some of you may want to read more than 7 or even less than that! I'll edit the original post to say participants may read as many as they like.
Diva 7 Classics Challenge
1. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
2. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
3. The Count of Montecristo by Alexandre Dumas
4. Crime and Punishment
5. Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes
6. Nana by Emile Zola
7. Macbeth by Shakespeare
7 Classics Challenge
Are there any classics that you've meant to read for years but haven't found the time or wherewithal to do so? Now's your chance! Just pick 7 classics and read them within one year. You can even combine them with other challenges, like the title or author challenge.
It's that simple! As you progress, just edit your original list.
***Don't feel constrained by the #7. If you want to read more (or less) just state it in your post. The point is to encourage everybody to finally get into those classics that have been in their to read shelf for ever!***
Hahaha! I have Xu Xi too...it's the only author I've found that starts with a X.
For Z is easier. You could read Isabel Allende's Zorro. It's a very entertaining, quick read and it tells the story of how Zorro became Zorro, his youth, etc. Too bad I already read it...
Also, there are tons of books that start with Zero...the one I'm planning to read is called "The Zero."
I'm in love with Mr. Thornton! Truly, I'm not kiddding. I think I like him even more than, gasp! Mr. Darcy.
As you can see from my post, I finished North & South yesterday.

Wow, Collen! You're also doing the author challenge? WOW!
I think I'll do this one too because I have a lot of other books in my TR shelf that my friends have recommended and which I've been meaning to read in between the author challenge. That way, I won't feel as if I'm cheating on author challenge!
And I'll switch Don Quixote to this challenge - which was actually part of my author challenge. :)
Just finished "A dirty job"...it was awesome! I think my next book will be 'North & South'.
I also switched from Bosch to Balzac.
