Patrick, no, I do not remember exactly when it was mentioned, I dont think anyone was seen reading it... I think it was just a book that influenced the writers.
Hey Philip.. thanks for stomping my group :)
Hee hee
Yeah, that seems to be the thought of many of my members. They are 50 years in the past currently.... so it would make sense, in a way....
I know the reason this is on the Lost Lit List is due to the fact that Sawyer was seen reading it, but I found the deeper connection to be just survival.
A group of rabbits/people forced to continually survive and dealing with members of the group who want to be or feel they should be the leader (Bigwig/Locke) when the one who is actually looked to as leader (Hazel/Jack)didnt want the leadership role... at first anyway...
Fran, the whole series or just the first book?
I read that entire original series (not the prequels that came after) as they were coming out in hardcovers. One is just not enough, if you like it.... you are going to have to read them all :)
The great thing with that series is that it reads really really quickly.
And, btw, dont watch the movie version of it.. it was horrible!
Ooohh.. Another book I read prior to my Lost addiction. I remember not really liking this one too much when I read it.
Oh Man, I read this many many years ago.... I would be interested to read your posts as you go, that would be a great refresher!
I think it would work best if you had a separate thread for each novel you choose to read or discuss together.
I read Watership Down quite a few months ago and would love to chat about it when you are ready!
Your welcome. Like I said, I had copied it from Lostpedia for my own group, so it was no biggie.
Lots of great reading in there :)
Here is the list as it appeared on Lostpedia last season, and Ive added the ones Ive seen this season.
Hope this saves you some time compiling :)
I have a group on here that I run "Flight 815ers unite", and we dont read along together, but keep a running list of the books we have read or are reading, and start book discussions on them.
You guys and gals are more than welcome to check the group out if you like.
Anyhow, Watership Down is a great read, and summer is a great time to dive in, I say!

I have been meaning to get this book for a long while, and kept putting it off. A writer I love once recommended it to me. I plan on picking it up soon.
I wondered why they spent such a long time shooting that cover ... until the end of the finale...!! Great set up, that was. Makes me hope they didnt just pick the book for its cover in this case (foreshadowing never hurt anyone, really)... But you are right, there are some Lost-ish links towards the writing from what I gather.
Count me in as a Rose and Bernard lover as well. I always thought, even tho they chose to separate from the group and rise above the pettiness, that they were such a cute, loving couple. I like the wild man look.. hee hee
And yay for seeing Vincent again too. I was wondering what that dog was up to! Rose and Bernard must be feeding him well...
Yeah, she joined my Flight 815-ers Unite group and posted the same stuff. I deleted the post/thread, and booted her.
Just not interested,
and in no way shape or form linked to the show....
Alix, the leather bound novel of Vernes works contains Journey to the Center of the Earth, and I am very much looking foward to reading that one as well....
Is Nabokovs novel listed as lost lit? I didnt notice it on the weblist... or perhaps it is a new addition? I will have to look into it!
Im not really writing reviews perse, but i have started to read some of the novels from the Lost Lit List, and while one was really good, the others have left me wondering if i should continue the trend.
I read Mysterious Island by Verne. 5 guys and a dog are stranded on an uninhabited island when thier ballon crashes. while its highly technical and descriptive, I found i was reading late into the nite for an inability to stop turning the pages! (I liked it so much, i went out and bought a leather bound book of Vernes Works, and am currently reading 20,000 Leauges)
I read Island by Huxley. Wow. this seemed like it was going to be a great novel. the first few pages really pulled me in. But then I was forcing myself through it. Huxley basically wrote an essay on what he thought the perfect society was and had created characters to state it to us. Blah. the only good parts were the first few pages and the last few pages. Everything in between was --ugh-- at best.
Then onto VALIS by Philip K. Dick. Another mess of a novel. This one is about Dicks alterego/other personality and his search for God and the truth. Sounds ok, until you get into his exegsis and all the theoretical jargon he spews at you. Buried under all the nonesence is a half decent novel. But it was a tough one to get through.
I am taking a break from the Lost List, just because I have had two bad reads in a row, and wanted to actually read something i may enjoy. I am sure I will be drawn back to it eventually.
Has anyone else read any of the books I have listed above? I would be interested to hear what you think.... if I am way off base, or if you felt the same....
I just went out and bought The Mysterious Island yesterday. Its a biggier book than im used to, i plan on tackling that one sometime this week... its about 5 people and dog who crash land thier balloon on a strange island... hmmm... very much like lost.
oh yeah, and Im loving Desmond. His character has grown leaps and bounds recently. At first, with his deathly predictions for Charlie, he was just doom and gloom, but now he is really grabbing my attention. I totally want to see him and Penny reunite.
I have always prefered Locke to Jack, but his whole 'not having a plan' and letting ben get the best of him is starting to piss me off.
Ecko and Locke were both faithful people, and i think thats why Ecko got the boot. I dont think having two like people would have worked out on the island. Each person that is left is very different and very necessary at this point, in my opinion. The only one i see no real plot line for anymore is Claire. She was always sort of Charlies girl, and with the exception of Aaron, she really isnt part of the story anymore. Am I wrong there? Since the season began, shes more just hanging around near everyone.... I have a feeling she'll either become very important soon, or very dead. (Dont forget, we have the whole 'how did Aaron end up with Kate' thing to work out)
Joop is the world's oldest orangutan in the storyline of the alternate reality game The Lost Experience, according to thehansofoundation.org. This is a major breakthrough that is the result of The Hanso Foundation's Life Extension Project. As Hanso executive Peter Thompson says on the website, "Considering that the average lifespan of chimps in captivity is 60 years, this milestone is clear proof that The Hanso Foundation's Life Extension Project will someday help human beings achieve useful lifespans well beyond the current norm."
On the Official Lost Podcast/May 4, 2007, the writers joked that Joop was their solution ending should the show be abruptly cancelled. The final scene would be a cut to a desk and a leather chair, which would turn to reveal Joop saying "Hello I'm Joop. I bet you're wondering who I am", with a pipe in his mouth. Joop would then proceed to explain all of the Island's mysteries in a crisp and satisfactory fashion.
I never did the Lost Experience, but I got this info from Lostpedia....
