I also really liked the guy in "The Silver Kiss" by by Annette Curtis Klause - I can't remember his name!... checking Amazon... aha! Simon! This is a really great young adult vampire story. My one friend didn't like it though because of how it talks about death. It's by the same author who wrote "Blood and Chocolate" about werewolves. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how accurately the movie reflects the book... but anyway she's a good author!
I'd recommend the Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I haven't read all of them, but they are about great warriors (usually really hot guys) who died heroically and were given the option to become vampire hunters - Dark Hunters - by loosing their souls and basically becoming vampires themselves. Except they are the good guys and the bad guys are the creepy Lestate-esque vampires. These books tie in Greek mythology, Heaven & Hell, vampires, psychics, and probably a lot more I've forgotten.
They are also mainly romance novels, so there's the heroic woman that falls in love with the soul-less hunter and finds eternal love in every book!
Does Saetan, from The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop count? He's undead, drinks blood, and can't easily go out in daylight.
I kinda like Edward from Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, but he's a little whiney/tragic sometimes.

I just finished "Eclipse" by Stephanie Meyer, the third book in her YA series Twilight, about a girl who falls in love with her vampire classmate. Very Good!
I am going to start "Tangled Webs" by Anne Bishop soon. It comes out on the 4th of March!
I also read Karen Marie Moning's "Darkfever" and "Bloodfever," but don't know when another will come out in that series. These are pretty good - an average 22 year old girl, Mack, from the South goes to Dublin when her sister is murdered and discovers she can see Fey. Her sister could see the Fey, and now Mack discovers she can too. She is being drawn into some massive war between good and bad Fey.
