909 ***WARNING SPOILERS*** ***WARNING SPOILERS***

I wasn't bothered that this was not a typical Zombie Apocalypse book. Given that this book is a spy thriller/horror hybrid it makes sense how thinks play-out. The threat of an apocalypse was always present in this book and there most certainly was some zombie horde action- if you run out of bullets it must be a horde.

The logic of these zombies worked pretty well for the story; they seemed like a blend of the 28 days later pseudo zombies with a strong acknowledgment of your old fashion Romero style critters.

Still, it's good to see a reasonably competent military response in zombie fiction from time to time.

Hey Jonathan, I've heard the guys on the Mail Order Zombie podcast raving about a preview copy of your book. Been a while since I've read a zombie novel so I look forward to checking it out this spring.

909 I think the whole super-human zombie crap is bullshit. I had to laugh when the fat lady in DotD(2004) rocketed off the bed to attack people. Her muscles and coordination should not be superior to her living self. The main advantage zombies should have is their relentlessness, infecting others, and resistance to most mortal wounds.

Rhiannon, I like your bringing up the issue of wear and tear. Zombies don't heal those minor injuries to bone, joints and ligaments that the living do, so over time they should become less and less capable of speedy movement. Max Brooks kind of touched on that in WWZ as well.

909 I won't want to be weighed down with too much stuff. Assuming it's walking dead I'll go with a good crowbar as my main weapon; it's silent, won't jam or run out of ammo, and any side can be used as a weapon.

My main gun would be a .357 magnum revolver, I want to have a gun that won't jam on me when I really not it. My back-up would be 9mm P3AT auto, it's a small 6 shot so it wouldn't take up much room or add excessive weight. I'd keep a shot-gun at home base, but leave it when scouting it'd slow me down too much and get in my way.

For good measure I'd also take one of the 21 inch retractable steel batons. Their only about 8 inches long when collapsed and weigh a little over a pound; definitely springing for a more expensive police grade ASP version tho.

If it's running zombies, Dawn of the Dead 2004 style, I'll just assume I'm screwed.
