I"ve added another test poll to see if you get the message. It's to vote for your favorite armsman. I have my fingers crossed that you get the message!
hmmm...you are talking about in the notifications tab area?
you checked the box after I sent out the recent poll?
when I send out the poll message it said it was being sent to all the members (I checked the numbers).
Does anyone know if there is a way to get help with this type of issue? the help link at the bottom right of the page doesn't seem very helpful....
I've created a fun poll and sent out invites to the group. Let me know if you don't get an invitation!
i'll be your friend *grin*seriously though, if you're uncomfortable with the message change thing perhaps, since I've been sending most of the messages out, if you friend-ed me you'd get them?
I was just looking at my account information and there is a choice about who can send you messages on good reads -- just friends or anyone. I have mine set to anyone. Is yours set to just friends? (its on the right column of settings) -- I wonder if this makes a difference?
hmmmm... it should be in your goodreads inbox -- there is a link on the upper right near where you sign out. I know at least myself 4 people in the group got the message I sent out for a test. I also have my goodreads account set up so it emails my email address letting me know I have messages or there are new posts. I don't understand why you aren't getting the messages. :-( It's very odd.
I just sent out a test message to the group and asked people to let me know if they receive it. If you don't get a message from me with a "Test" subject line let me know!!

Could a circular letter be sent to all members when a new poll about what we would ..."hmmm.... I thought that I was broadcasting a message to the group each time I put up a poll (sometime, but not always a reminder as well) along with a message letting people know what the results of the poll were. Has anyone received these messages? perhaps I'm doing something wrong....
You're already for discussion then! Passage will be our new read/discussion book. I like this one a lot too, can't wait to re-read!

seriously though this scene (event/interlude?) from Komarr did make a huge impression on him. Miles treated him as a person. A person of value. With interesting ideas and a dream worthy of pursuit. Tien certainly did none of these things!
The winner of our September 2009 read and October 2009 discussion poll is A Civil Campaign
I believe this is a favorite for many of us here and look forward to discussion and most definitely laughter during the coming months as we read and discuss this "Comedy of biology and manners!"
I love the scene where Miles gets down on the floor of Ekaterine's work room with Nikki and they look at Nikki's collection of ships and discuss Mile's experiences with the real ships and possible pilot tracks for Nikki. This type of encouragement and interest is so important for children and Nikki clearly doesn't get anything of the sort from Tien.
Here's one (has it been mentioned yet?) from Komarr:"Oh," said Ekaterine faintly. "Drat."
There was a meditative pause before Lord Vorkosigan spoke. "Madame Vorsoisson," he said mildly at last, "has it ever occurred to you that you may be just a touch oversocialized?"
I had to look up groats -- I though they must be similar to oatmeal, but I wasn't sure....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groat_%28gr...
they seem to pop up a lot in the novel Komarr!
further investigation found this article on kasha
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasha
"Kasha in Slavic culture:
A traditional Russian fairy tale speaks of a hungry soldier who promised to prepare kasha from an axe in order to coax food from a stingy but curious woman.
The centrality of kasha in the traditional Eastern European diet is also commemorated in the Russian proverb "щи да каша — пища наша", literally "shchi and kasha are our food" and more loosely, "cabbage soup and porridge are all we need to live on.""
if you can't figure out how to post a new topic you can always post it here on this thread and one of us will add it as a thread for you! :-)
In Komarr we meet Ekaterine Vorsoisson for the first time. I don't know about anyone else, but I admire Ekaterine (yes I know she's fictional) very much. My screen name VorLady is in honor of her in fact. What makes her such an admirable character? What makes her human?
Another great lady we meet in the novel is Ekaterine's Aunt Vorthys. Does she have any special qualities that you admire?
