8632 Jen - I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. I will certianly think of both of you and say a prayer too.

8632 Oh yes. I'm in! I've loved all of the suggestions so far! And the discussion is the fun part!

PS - just finished Crown Duel! 4 stars!

8632 Yes, I highly recommend Patricia C. Wrede's The Enchanted Forest Chronicles: Dealing with Dragons / Searching for Dragons / Calling on Dragons / Talking to Dragons! Very good, sweet books. Although I'd say they were more middle grade than YA.

8632 My fave Juliet Marillier book is Wildwood Dancing. Absolutely a 5 star book. Cybele's Secret is the sequel/companion; also, a 5 star book. I'd like to start her Sevenwaters series too.
8632 Alethea - I liked Ink Exchange more than Wicked Lovely. I'm not into fairies I mean faeries, but I think Melissa Marr is a good writer and I like her progressive themes. Leslie (the protag in Ink Exchange) is a much better main character than the Ashlyn.

Oh and I'm a slave to a good cover. I know it's superficial, but I can't help myself.

I like Marr because she's really invovled w/ her readership & posts good writing tips. Also, she was given a "major book deal" so I'm anxious to see if she'll live up the hype.
8632 Jeanne - you'll love The Hunger Games. It's a very exciting read.

I don't know if anyone else has a gaping hole in their literary obsession lives since Harry Potter & Twilight has wrapped up, but I've found a couple series that I think are obession worthy that are still going on. The new releases give me something to look forward to.

Anyhoo, the series I'm loving now are -
*** Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games with two more books planned releasing fall 2009 & fall 2010
*** Kristin Cashore's Graceling with releases in fall 2009 & fall 2010
*** Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments Series - #1 City of Bones & #2 City of Ashes. Final installment in March 2009.
*** Melissa Marr's series #1 Wicked Lovely & #2 Ink Exchange. Next release coming April 2009.

And of course coming soon Maria V. Snynder's series starting with Storm Glass. I can't wait to follow that one!

8632 Yes, this has been fun! I really enjoyed all of the posting and great discussion!

8632 Oh, that's a good question. Series planning is always very interesting to me. It takes so much forthought.
8632 Oh, that's good to know (esp. about the book prices). The 100 free classics is a good deal though.
8632 Thanks Meme! Once you buy a book can you share with another e-reader or Kindle user? Do you find that the e-books are significantly cheaper?
8632 I say we vote on this! I've put together two polls - one on Yelena & another on Ginny Weasley (I couldn't resist).

Please read this thread before forming your opinion.

8632 Fixed it. Thanks for the catch Lexie!
8632 Lexie - I've though seriously about grabbing the Jaz Parks books, but I have prejudice against bad names – Jaz is a bad/trite/terrible name. (Digression – I almost screamed out loud when Edward called Jasper Jazz in Breaking Dawn – Really!)

I just bought Tamora Pierce’s Daughter of the Lioness duology. Can’t wait to read it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I love exhausting a genre!
8632 This is so funny. We probably need another post to debate whether or not Ginny Weasley is a Mary Sue. :o)
8632 Ok, so I've been thinking about buying a Kindle, but I don't know if I'll like it. So I'm throwing it out there to the group.

Do you own a Kindle or E-Reader? Would you recommend it?

I love to look a my books on the shelf and on tables (and in some cases under the bed), so I don't know if this product would be for me? But instantly getting the titles I want is a huge plus. What do you think?

8632 Lexie - Ok... Gah... my feeling really aren't hurt, but I bet Ginny's would be if she heard you call her a Mary Sue. ***Really, I'm just kidding about the hurt feelings stuff. No hurt feelings. Honest.***

Alethea - Good point (is it just me or am I saying that a lot lately?)! Ginny was systematically ignored by crush for 7 books! That wouldn't happen to a Mary Sue. Mary Sue would get her man stat! No questions asked.
8632 Lexie - I think you've hurt my feelings calling Ginny Weasley a Mary Sue. **sniff**sob**sniff** Just because an ordinary person becomes a hero doesn't make them a Mary Sue. Isn't most fiction about ordinary people doing extrodiary things?

The only thing about Mary Sues that truly irritates me is when everything comes too easy. If a character becomes hero through trial & tribulation (& in Yelena's case torture & capture) it's ok by me. Mary Sue be damned.

8632 Tilda Swinton would make an AWESOME Commander. Good pick Alethea!

I could see Jessica Alba as Yelena, too.

For me James McAvoy wouldn't work as Valek. He's too... British. Don't get me wrong - I love him. But, I'm thinking of someone a little bit tougher. I must ponder....

Will post later with awesome suggestion. :o)

8632 Liz - that's a really good point. I think you may be on to something with Opal helping the Commander. Very interesting.
8632 Tina - I really love the Enchanted forest series too! Cimonerene is a great protag. I've only read the 1st 2, but my box set is coming this week and I can't wait. They're middle grade reading, but I still love them.

Alethea - I've started Shinn's Samaria series (and if half.com would deliver the rest of the books, I'd be glad to finish it). Anyway, I love her style & characters. I'll have to check out Black Jewels.

PS - I've started hiding all of my mass market paperpacks under the bed. He never looks there. :o) Some gals to shoes, some gals to purses, I do books (I think it's more economical).
