8565 Just finished another free ebook
The Thirteenth Step I gave it 3 Stars
This is a short erotic story about Blake a shapeshifter and Ella a vampire.
Blake and Ella had a relationship years ago until Blake called it all off. Now Ella has brought him to Vegas under the false pretence of a job. What Ella really needs is Blake's Blood as she struggles for power against the city's Master.

8565 Like Photojim I can really understand Sookie's character and how she must be feeling. I can't remember which book it was in but I loved when her New Years resolution was "not to get beat up this year". She understands that she is in a dangerous situation with all these paranormal creatures around her, but that just seems to be her lot in life, so she deals with it the best way she knows how. I also love that pretty much everything she's learnt she has picked up from reading books because she could not handle being in a class full of people due to all their thoughts constantly bombarding her.

8565 I was cruzing through the free ebooks on this site and came accross a couple of short stories (and I do mean short between 37-41 pages) that fit under this months Paranormal book shelf, as well as the erotic shelf ;op Moonshine I was able to read right off of the goodreads PDF link, I found the other book by going to the authors web page where there are quite a few more free ebooks.

Moonshine I would give 3 Stars
Claire is a were-Coyote who is struggling with who she really is. After hurting her human boyfriend during sex she heads out to a sleazy rough bar in a bad part of town to see if she can hook up with another were and be herself. She meets Lars, another were-Coyote in the bar and together they share some moonshine, an aphrodisiac drink for Were's and head back to his place so he can show Claire what she is truly capable of.

That Old Black Magic I would give 4 Stars
This is a short erotica story about a thief named Polly who is also a witch, and a Werewolf named Max.
Max is sent on a job to track a magical charm, and meets Polly while breaking into a wizards house. When the wizard returns home early Polly and Max are forced to hide in a utility closet. Polly casts a spell to hide them and shield them from the wizard. While Polly and Max are hiding in the closet things turn rather intimate and very fast, ending with Polly handcuffed to the sink. It will take more then handcuffs to stop Polly and pay backs a real B*@#^!

8565 completed Buffy The Vampire Slayer Time Of Your Life and I give it 5 stars.

This is the fourth instalment of the Buffy Season 8 Graphic Novels.
I really enjoyed this story.
Buffy is transported through a rift in time to the future and in her place a demon appears. Willow tries to figure out what happened and why her secret informant has led her astray, while Buffy tried to cope with the new and very different future. Why is there only one slayer? and why is there no record or mention of what Buffy accomplished by creating an army of slayers in the past?
Meanwhile back at the fort Dawn is dealing with being turned into a Centaur while, while Warren and Amy are up to no good again.
Another great read :0)

8565 Just finished reading Buffy the Vampire Slayer Wolves at the Gate and I give it 4 stars

This was the third instalment into the Season 8 Buffy Universe :0)
I have really been enjoying the series so far. I just love the illustrations.

This issue sees Buffy and the slayers travelling to Japan to take out a nest of Vampires that has managed to get a hold of Dracula's Transfiguration powers. Making them nearly impossible to kill. Xander finally confronts Renee about his feelings for her and Buffy takes a leap into un-known and very intimate territory with Satsu.
There are some very Corny moments in this story and some that make you laugh out loud.
Definitely a fun read, this series really makes me miss the TV show.

Battle Royale is a book I have been looking for, would love to read that one. I saw the movie and it was quite twisted and gorey. A very interesting story though. You will have to let me know what you think of the book :0)

Life of Pi I read a while ago and did not like it.

8565 Finished Obsidian Butterfly by Laurell K. Hamilton yesterday and I would give it 5 stars

This is the 9th book in the Anita Blake Vampire Slayer series. Anita travels to New Mexico to help Edward on a case, He's called in his favour! They end up dealing with the Master Vampire of the city who believes herself to be an Aztec Goddess, and on top of that there seems to be a serial killer on the loose who is skinning some of his victims while tearing others into tiny little pieces. This book has some of the most graphically violent scenes I have read and some torture scenes that are not for the squeamish or faint of heart. All I will say is "The poor, poor children".

8565 Just finished Blue Moon by Laurell K. Hamilton and I give it 5 stars.

This is the 8Th book in a very long series :0)
Richard our lovable werewolf is back in this one, but has gotten himself into trouble in Tennessee. Anita, to Jean-Claud's displeasure is rushing off to save him. In step, Vampires, Werewolf's, a clairvoyant, crooked cops and a sorcerer, and tons of gore and violence. This series is definitely not for the squeamish, filled with violence and sex.

8565 Just finished Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris. I gave it 5 Stars

I'm really enjoying the Sookie Stackhouse books. They are a fast read, and full of action and mystery.
The Town of Bon Temps seems to be plagued with a sharp shooter who is aiming for the two natured, which has Sookie worried since Jason her brother seems to be going through the change after having been bit by a were-panther.
Without giving away the whole story lets just say we meet some new vamps, Werewolfs and in step Claudine and Claude the Faerie twins.

8565 If you want credit for your Historical Fiction reads and want your name to be counted per review in the draws for a shelf picker, please post in the review folder.
Reviews in this folder will not be counted.
This folder is for suggestions and books you are going to try and read for the monthly shelf.

I think we may need to look at naming our monthly shelves a little more carefully to make it less confusing for everyone.

Aug 30, 2009 10:15PM

8565 The first book Dead Until Dark was pretty good and I really enjoyed it, but I have found the following books much more exciting.
What I do really enjoy about Charlaine Harris's writing, is she does not waist time trying to remind the reader what happened in the last book, and who characters are etc... etc... She just gets on with the story. When there is something that comes up that should be remembered from a previous book she finds a way to work it into the story or dialogue so you don't feel like your being talked at.
In my opinion there is nothing worse then reading a series and having the author constantly re-inform you of what's happend, it becomes such a chore to continue reading. I find even though I love the Anita Blake series, Laurell K. Hamilton is guilty of this. I find as I'm progressing in the series it's not as bad, but maybe that's her developing her writing skills. Maybe by the time I get to book 15 she will have stopped all together :oD

8565 Just finished reading Club Dead by Charlaine Harris and I give it 5 Stars.
I am loving these books! As Tara has said they are full of steamy sex scenes, violence and mystery. When I'm done reading the books, I'm going to watch the True Blood series :0)
