Thanks, Lyn! GMTA! I was just looking at the calendar and noticing how far into November we already are! Where does the time go? And you are correct. Arlene uses the reviews posted in October to choose our next shelf picker. I'll send her a quick email to make sure she knows.
Welcome, Chris and Candiss! That's one of the reasons I joined as well - for that little push on a monthly basis in reading a wider variety of genres than I normally would. I've read some great books I probably never would have read since joining.
Welcome, Rebecca! Feel free to jump right in - read an Asian book for November, post your review, and/or start your list for the One Shelf Down challenge.

Welcome to the group, Coralie! Feel free to jump in. Although I would say since you're starting in November that you start with this month's shelf, which is Asian. (If I'm wrong, I hope Karen will jump in here and say so. She's the one who designed the challenge.)
Since you're staring the challenge in November, Candiss, start with Asian. And welcome to the group!
Shelf 8: currently-readingBattle Royale - read Nov. 15, 2009
Still deciding on my rating and what to say in my review. I'll post here when it's done.
I liked it enough to give it four stars - although it was really probably closer to 3.5 for me. I talk more about why I liked it and some of my problems with the book in my review. It's probably my third favorite Neil Gaiman book - not counting his picture books. I haven't read any of his graphic novels.
Just added star ratings and links to my reviews, for those who might be interested. Now I need to go spend some time actually reading! :)
I'm not sure how I'll like Life of Pi. My friends are all over the place with it - from two stars all the way to five. I'll be sure to post some thoughts about it here once I've read it. Hopefully I really do get to it! I've had it "on deck" more than once (planned to read it for both Shelf-a-Thons) and then just never got to it.I'm also not sure how I'll like Battle Royale. I've read lots of reviews comparing it to The Hunger Games - only they say Battle Royale is more for adults, with more violence, etc. I really liked The Hunger Games, so I'm interested to compare the two.
I just read Journey Home this week. If I would have known our next shelf was going to be Asian, I might have saved it until November. :) I think I'll just plan on two books from my TBR list for the monthly shelf this time. I've been ignoring my Author & Title A-Z challenge, and I only have two to go! So I'll be working on that this coming month as well.
Also, the two books I'm looking at are quite long:
* Battle Royale - some people liked it better than The Hunger Games
* Life of Pi

I'll let you know what I think about it when I'm done, BJ. I'm only about 30 pages in, but so far I really like it.
Thanks for the warning, Lyn! I guess the moral of the story is: The reader who plans too far in advance might have to re-plan the plan. :)My report:
Beginning shelf: paranormal
Current shelf: juvenile
Shelves completed: 6
I was thinking of it the other way - go one shelf down from the shelf you're reading for that book. I'm glad I asked then, if I'm thinking different from everyone else! I don't think it will mean I need to change the books I've read - yet! :)
