8565 I had to look to see if this book fell under Paranormal. It does.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

I also want to read another one, probably something older by Stephen King. I usually pick whatever is in the library, since they are so hard to get.

Great choice for October.

8565 Veronika Decides to Die A Novel of Redemption by Paulo Coelho

A young woman attempts suicide and ends up in a psychiatric ward where she finds out her failed attempted ruined her heart and she will die in less than a week. This book takes us on her week journey toward death. We look into the workings of her mind as well as the workings in the minds of her fellow 'inmates'. This being a Coelho book, there is a spiritual moral that you have to find.

For me it was drudgery. Too many stories intertwine and I was often lost. The ending was clever, but not clever enough to warrant the tedious trip through this book.

8565 I read "Look Me In The Eye..." I found it pretty interesting, I think those who are going to read it will enjoy it.

8565 OMG! I feel so dumb. That was beyond easy. Thanks Luann. It is in the genre. YAY!

8565 Is there not a way to see if a book is in that bookshelf withouth having to search every page? There must be, I forgot how. I have been wanting to read: Cut by Patricia Mccormick, since it has been sitting on my shelf for a feew months now
8565 I've read 21 of them.
And most of the rest is on my TBR list.

8565 M is done.
A Mercy by Toni Morrison.
2/5 Didn't enjoy this as much as her other books.

A is next and I have no clue.

8565 T is now done.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Audio format.

Eight hours later and it was awful. Sexist and Dated. I wanted to cut my ears off so I didn't have to listen to it any longer. If it wasn't for this challenge and the time already invested in it, I would have not finished it.

URGH!

I'm going to finish A Mercy now, and I gotta tell you, not enjoying this one, but am 1/2 through so I might as well, only about 90 pages to go.

I'm currently on T and M

8565 I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman - Nora Ephron

On to S, which I'm a little stuck on. Started T and M, but need to get to S and finish that first. I had a book, but now I'm not in the mood to read it. I suck. LOL!

8565 I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman - Nora Ephron

Well...
It was funny in parts, I could relate to some of it, but for me it was just OK. The rants of a famous, rich, skinny, 60something year old woman who lives in NYC only has only 2 things in common with me. Her sex and her location, although I don't live in a ritzy condo.

Light and entertaining I suppose, just not the usual type of memoir I would read, I like to read about the struggle of existence, hardships in childhood that were overcome by hard work. Not about how your favorite nail salon moved to the west side.

8565 Red Azalea by Anchee Min

A memoir about a young woman coming of age in China during the Mao years. She talks about her time in the Army, but it is mainly about her 'love life'. Some lesbian scenes are mildly graphic, but it wasn't enough to disturb me. Very beautifuly written, like poetry. Sad story, that ended bright.

4/5 stars.

8565 OK, some of you people read WAY too fast for me.

Red Azalea - Anchee Min

On to I

8565 I remember when my son was in grade 8, one of the summer reading books was ROOTS. I cringed. My mother had that book once, it is huge. Not that I'm afraid of big books, I'm just into reading shorter books now, I've read a lot of longer books this year, I need a break.

8565 Yes I'm tying my books in with several challenges. I actually used it for the TNBBC Chinese Book/Non Fiction Challenge/Christmas Challenge.

My I book is also that way.

I always borrow books from the library, although I have too many at home to read.

Dec 08, 2008 08:16AM

8565 Roots is WAY too long. LOL!
I think I found one though.

Red Azalea
I may actually go out at lunch and get it from the library, it is there (as of now).

This would satisfy R and the Chinese category.

...And it is also Non-Fiction.

3 for 1

8565 I'm having a delima too. the R book that will qualify for both this and the TNBBC challenge. Oh why does this have to be so hard.

8565 H - How Reading Changed My Life - by Anna Quindlen

On to my R book!!

8565 How Reading Changed My Life
by Anna Quindlen

3 Stars.

It was a short read. Talked mostly about how she became infatuated with reading and books in general. She talks about some of her favorite books. At the end of the book she has several top 10 lists which had some pretty interesting suggestions.

I would recommend this to any book lover who wants something quick but interesting to read.

8565 Fiona, unless she changed it, yes that was rule #2.

2. In order to spell ‘Christmas Day’ – the books have to be read in order (that is you cannot read a book with a ‘S’ title after the ‘C’ title, you must read ‘H’ title after ‘C’ to spell ‘Ch…’)
