Summer, I don't know how much you like choir music, but whenever you get to Ireland you might want to check out the Trinity Cathedral Choir in Dublin. I happened upon a service there last July that was sung by the choir, and after stayed to watch them rehearse. I ended up buy 2 of their CD's. Also, the church is historic w/ all kinds of nooks and crannies to explore plus a subterranian catacomb-like burial room. Quite the experience!
I was in Ireland and Italy last summer - spent 7 weeks but didn't get to Spain. Spain is certainly on my "to-go-to" list. But I think Poland & Germany will be first. My partner's father was killed in WWII in Poland a few weeks before her birth. So, she wants to find the approximate spot and put a small memorial of some sort. Then naturally we have to go to Germany to see her childhood friends and family members (her mother brought the family to the states in the late 50's). I'd like to get to Austria too and hear the Vienna boys choir in person on their own turf :-)
Sherry, Care to share any good travel stories? If you're like me, you probably have at least the next 2 trips brewing in the back of your mind. For me its Poland and Peru. Any suggestions?
One question as a newbie here. Does it matter which list we choose to read from, or is this group more lax than that?
Hi, I'm lionlady and reading is both how I learn things and how I escape. I also love talking about books. Let's see, I have a partner who has 2 grown kids (& 3 grandkids), 2 kids of my own (also grown but my youngest - the 20 yr. old just moved back in), a german shepherd and 2 cats. I also love different cultures. Two yrs. ago I started my travels w/ a trip to Africa. My goodreads photo is one of my pics. When I can't afford to travel, I read books set in different places. I love languages and have a goal of becoming functional in all the romance languages plus German - Lets see, I teach high school science but I'm burning out on public school education. Oh, I'm adopted and looked up my birth mother when I was 22. I got 3 sisters out of the deal too! I knit, am "Catholicly impared" - for better or worse. And, if you couldn't tell, I'm a little ADD.
