Thanks, Ruth. Very enjoyable to see this. Also, I enjoyed seeing the telegraph. My partner Peter is related to Samuel F.B. Morse who is his great, great grand uncle, and Peter's middle name is Morse.
I enjoyed the photos and commentary, especially from Allen. Wish I'd been there. And this is the first I've heard of fore-edge painting.
Dale! It's great to "hear" your voice. I've been absent myself of late. I look forward to interacting again! And Happy Birthday to all Octoberites.

Thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes. Sorry for being absent so long. I had a lovely birthday, waking up at the Jersey shore and spending the morning walking along the ocean's edge and watching the birds. Robt
The Morgan Library in NYC is also wonderful. They always have a display of rare books and manuscripts open to an interesting page.
Thanks, Ruth. That bookstore in Portugal is too much. I remember discovering a used bookstore in Delaware in a huge old barn with books stuffed everywhere. Just the best.
Thanks for the heads up on this, Ruth. The glitch argument is very suspect. According to the link you posted even former Amazon employees think so. It's something that we have to be vigilant about.
Yes, it was Kathleen M. (can't remember the spelling of her last name either) who was related to Thomas McCarthy, the director of The Station Agent which was filmed in Morris County, NJ and the surrounding area. Kathleen lived near me but I haven't heard from her in a long time.

The Last Picture Show is an excellent film. Ellen Burstyn writes about the filming of it in her autobiography Lessons in Becoming Myself. A tidbit: Burstyn was originally cast in Cloris Leachman's role and vice versa but they switched. They were both nominated for Oscars and Leachman won (well deserved).
A splendid Inauguration! I read Obama's Inaugural Address this morning because while watching it yesterday I was too excited to hear all of it. It is simultaneously pragmatic and inspiring. He is definitely the man for the moment.
Lanford Wilson's Home Free! is a play with a male & female from his early shock theater days. It's in his 21 Short Plays collection. Very edgy and well written.
