So now I have a dilemma, I listened to the first CD today and no footnotes. I loved what I heard but after reading all the discussion about the footnotes I feel that maybe I am missing something important. I am not sure if I should continue with the audio book or not. Some books are for reading, turning the pages, turning the pages back again, re-reading, digesting what you have read, turning the book over in your lap and thinking for a moment, perphaps this is one of those books? I heard on CBC (Radio Canada) today that DIAZ is nominated for the Dublin prize, one of the biggest literay $ prizes awarded. I think I might just have to get the book.

I haven't started yet, I get audio books to listen to when I help my friend out in her boutique. It is very quiet in the winter months so I can bring my knitting and listen to audio books between customers. Tomorrow is my first day at the shop since I picked up this recording. I will be working right through Sunday so I will have some comments by Monday. They are predicting rain all week-end, I should have plenty of time between customers, good for me, but not so good for my friend :-(

Toronto is just a big city, typical of what you will find in any big American city. The Royal Ontario Museum referred to as ROM is worth a visit. If you want a true taste of Canada you need to go North of Toronto into Algonquin Park, head east to the Capital Ottawa, truly a beautiful place or Montreal/Quebec City for some culture, the east coast for the friendliest most welcoming people you will find anywhere in the world, the west coast for the vast mountains and long stretches of still undeveloped coast, ok I'm gushing, but you can't really experience Canada in Toronto. Sorry to my fellow Canadians in Toronto, but they know what I mean.
I have been an avid reader since I discovered the library around the corner from my house at the age of 8, many, many, many years ago. I read just about anything I can get my hands on (except sci-fi) but I must admit that I do lean towards Canlit :-)
I also just picked this up as an auidobook from the library read by Jonathan Davis with Staci Snell. It came with a bonus book by Junot Diaz called Drown.
