8361 Haha this would be fun. We should just be fair and pick the most central place, except that might be in the middle of the ocean.

Kimberly, the one time we tried to make lefse it did NOT go well. We riced 10 pounds of potatoes and left them out on our porch overnight. At around 2 a.m. that morning our power went out and was out for 9 days. They became potato pancakes.
Jamie, I once guessed a Valentine's day gift from my boyfriend, and I felt so bad. I just don't do it anymore, it takes all the fun out of it! However, I will confess to knowing what one gift from my boyfriend is this year, because I explicitly asked for a book with a specific cover.

Kimberly, my grandma used to make her own lefse and my family got all of her supplies! We were going to make it one year, but the night we riced the 10 pounds of potatoes the power went out for 10 days. They became potato pancakes.

My family has lots of Christmas traditions. Lately we've been making a politically incorrect Christmas diorama out of our decorations which don't have a place on the tree or with other decorations (too big or whatever). Every morning on Christmas morning we designate someone Santa (usually me) who selects one gift for everyone, and then we all go around in the circle and open them one by one. I'm also one of those obnoxious people who starts listening to Christmas music (albeit not 24/7) the day after Halloween.

Some of my favorite Christmas movies are Love Actually and The Santa Claus, and I love to watch When Harry Met Sally on New Year's Eve.

8361 Lori, I'm so sorry to hear that! I have finals too right now, so I can relate, but that really sucks :( Something like that happened to my car in high school so usually I just had to sit on a snow seat until the seat warmer kicked in. I hope you can do something about it!
The Canon (6 new)

8361 Tahleen, you are so right. But if you look at the canon, some good chunks if it were written before other races or women had the same rights as white men, so as sad as it is, it makes sense in some ways.
Ashley, in my later years of high school more contemporary books were on summer reading lists, like Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson and Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli (I've read the former but not the latter). But it does need to happen more often and you're right. My professors assign a lot of contemporary stuff, but that's college and I am an English major.

8361 I'm taking the Jazz Age right now and I find the canon to be really depressing. My friend is taking a very similar class with all the same authors and different books and she agrees. I'm actually writing a research paper for that class on the connections between money, American identity and impotence The Big Money, Tender is the Night, A Lost Lady and The Sun Also Rises

I know! However, my favorite Disney movie is 101 Dalmatians. It's probably the one I've watched the most.

8361 Nools, did you end up sending my CDs to the PO box I messaged you? If not, it's cool.
I will post my playlist here tomorrow or Saturday, when I am not so crazy busy with homework!

8361 What's up with group 2?
8361 I started New Moon a week ago, but then Lady Audley's Secret came in for my Vic Lit book club and I've been workiong Jennifer Finney Boylan's She's Not There for a class (plus all of my other school reading...).
I saw The Hunger Games in my school's bookstore the other night and I wanted to buy it SO BADLY because it's gotten the most amazing reviews, but I decided to wait. Clearly I should get it soon!

8361 I'd be happy to just do the 5 we have, but that's just me.
8361 Jamie wrote: "Did you like The Bell Jar?? It's in my top 5!"
I did! I liekd the way Plath ended the novel. I thought it was very interesting onfthe whole.

8361 I recently finished The Bell Jar and am still working on Stardust--school does interfere with fun reading!

8361 At my school we live in dorms all 4 years, and the nice thing is you have to clean the room pretty well once you leave or else you get a massive fine, so it makes a lot easier for future people to come live there.

8361 Aw Nools, that would be sweet of you, as long as you promise you don't mind! But I'd say if you have any sticky labels, just put one over the current address and write the school one in, so the paid postage could still be used. Just a thought!

8361 When CDs do get shipped out, I'm not going to be at the address on my prepaid envelope because I go back to school Thursday. Sad. I can, however, get them at Thanksgiving!
8361 It should be the month of your birthday!
