8322 Would anyone like to comment on my website please? www.faithmortimerauthor.com I have some reservations of my own and plan to change each page (when I have time !). Anything constructive that would help, please.

8322 Hi there,
I've been following all your comments with interest. So far I've tried most of what you are all suggesting. My book came out last January and its doing ok on the UK market, not so well on the US. I approach book shops for signings and so far I've only been turned down once (busy at christmastime excuse)all other shops have been really keen to get an author in (good free publicity for them) they then stock my books. I've given a couple of talks and they've gone done really well.Sold more books there than anywhere else. I do fairs and they're a good venue also. I donate half royalties at some charity events and give copies away as rafle prizes. I even get our local bar to stock them and the landlady gets a real kick when she sells a copy.Radio coverage is good but stations seem to be cutting back.I've had some reviews and they create a lot of interest and I push my website www.faithmortimerauthor.com whenever I can.Facebook, twitter the list goes on. But, it all take so much time, so much that it is sometimes difficult to actually get down and write that next book! OOOh. Next stop is to find a good agent for the next novel.

8322 Thank you all for your valuable input on this discusion. I have now put 3 copies of THE CROSSING up as giveaways (last night) and so far I have had 81 requests. Good publicity! Hopefully some will convert into sales. My novel is doing well in the UK but it's slower in the States and worldwide of course. Anyway thank you all and it's now over to you!!

Hi Jackie,
Sorry not to get back to you sooner but we have guests staying... so no work done for a day or so!
Re your questions:
I lived in Guildford from 1972 -2001, so have great memories there. I qualified at the old hospitals in 1975. As my children all live in G'ford I am often visiting and still regard it as my 'home'town, hence the connection.

It was easy to get the book signing. I called in spoke to the asst manager and showed them my card and explained a little about the book and my connection to G'ford and they were happy for me to arrange a date. I then got my publisher to arrange delivery of books, posters etc. All painless!
It was the same with Borders in Southampton, and I have 2 more in November with Waterstones (Winchester) and the Post Office in Bishop's Waltham where we also stay.
We live a lot of the time in Cyprus now so I travel regularly to and fro.

Who are Goldenford Publishers? My current novel is with Olympia of London, but a more local publisher may be better for me. Are they big/medium/small and what do they like to publish?

Your writer's circle sounds interesting. Is it online/private or do you meet? Any chance of my joining for a visit when I am next in town?
regards

8322 Hi Jackie,

Sorry I missed you! I held the book signing in the Waterstones in the High St. As I said the manager was great and I will probably go back next year. My novel is The Crossing. It is based on a true incident(concerning his father) that was related to me by a friend. I simply put the incident together with my friend's own experiences. together their story was pretty gripping and I thought it made a good novel. In the novel you can find; action, adventure, historical fiction, sex, love, death... It has almost everything! If you check out either my website, www.faithmortimerauthor.com or Amazon.co.uk there is masses more info there.

Your writers guild sounds interesting, tell me more!

8322 I'd love to know if Goodreads ads works. At 50c a click it could work out very expensive as stats say that for every 100 people looking if you get a 2% take up then you're doing well. So 100 clicks (out of curiosity) @ $50 and 2% = 1. Hmmm. Don't think it's viable myself. But I could be wrong and I'd love to hear from someone who has benefited.

8322 Hi Geoff,

You recent book signings sound a bit like mine. It is so often the people who sidle past a few times who then pluck up courage to come and speak to 'a real author'. At the last 2 signings I did in Southampton and Guildford 3 weeks ago, I think I sold more to people who 'only read biographies' or 'science fiction' then to what I class my book's genre to be; action/adventure/historical fiction.
If you approach some folk they look at you in amazement ; 'buy a book? What for? I'm only visiting the loo/coffee shop' Amazing!

Thankfully there were some real readers and buyers in both stores, and we sold enough for both store managers to say come again.
Ho hum.

8322 Hello, I've just joined this group. I am a published author with Olympia (novel is 'The Crossing' an adventure/action/historical fiction) and I'm busy working on my second novel 'The Assassins' Village' which is a murder mystery set in Cyprus where I live 2/3 of the year. The 2nd novel is taking shape and it's about 2/3 written. I hope to finish this year, (Autumn) would be good and then I shall look for an agent. Maybe I should start now? Any comments pls?
For my 1st book I went direct to the publisher and although it's doing well with great 5* reviews on Amazon.co.uk etc I think an agent could do better for me. What do you all think? Any comments would be greatly received!!
