8095 I agree it is frustrating. Goodreads user submitted data is available via our public api, but we decided it is better to have data some of the time than no data at all.

8095 This is likely because of licensing terms. We are under contract to not syndicate that "num pages" data out for that book. Sorry.
8095 I don't think this is possible to do with our API currently. Sorry!

8095 The record you linked does have the isbn and isbn13 you provided.

8095 I haven't seen anything, but maybe one of the other developers will chime in.

8095 Jinx.

8095 Please make permission requests to support@goodreads.com. Make sure to include a full description of your app and why you want the permission.

8095 As long as each installed application is generating only one request per second, you're fine as long as your app is only being used by real live humans.

The limits are really more focused on non client apps, we want to make sure we can scale to handle all incoming traffic and not put any of our user's experience at risk.

If we see a lot of unusual traffic coming from your application ID we'll work with you to come up with a solution, but for this use case, you shouldn't have an intermediate server.

Hope this helps,

8095 Per developer key. For your use case you should avoid creating a intermediate server.

Can you explain what your app does?
Jun 17, 2015 11:48AM

8095 Thats correct. Sorry for the inconvenience.

8095 While we typically do not want you caching goodreads data. Caching the author's gender for a few months should be OK. This would help you improve your response times over time.

Just want to make sure if the data was ever incorrect (user entered it incorrectly, or the author was transgender) there is a mechanism to update it eventually.

8095 Yes.
Jun 16, 2015 10:54AM

8095 It means do not make more than one API request per second.

Sorry it was confusing.

8095 Hey Ciao,

We do not currently surface recommendations through our API. We do not currently have plans to add recommendations to our public API.

8095 Hey Andrew,

Sounds like a really cool idea! Thanks for the detailed write up. Can you email the same question to support@goodreads.com? We handle the non-technical approvals and rejections in a more private setting. :)

Sorry to pass the buck here.

8095 We may change the format of the URL at any time.

Haven't tested this extensively, but i think if you look for the first match of /(\d+?)/ that will work.

Keep in mind this could break at any moment if we make changes to our url structures.

8095 there is not, sorry!
Apr 20, 2015 10:35AM

8095 Think of "book" as "edition" so a "work" has multiple "editions" (books).

Does that make sense?
Apr 17, 2015 10:02AM

8095 No, there are not. Sorry.
