Really, Joy? I think we must look for different things LOL I like simple & unsophisticated.....I am not saying I LOVE everything he has written but I think he must be a very loving, caring & sensitive man & I loved Message in the Bottle.....
It was a very good movie-I was wondering what you would think of it. I thought Jude Law was fantastic....
Just watched Nights in Rodanthe-read the book long enough in the past that I didn't remember too too much.....very nice little movie but of course, there were tears. I wonder what type of man Nicholas Sparks must be, his books are so emotional & filled with so much love....

The reviewer was just looking for things to hate about the book & that is what I didn't quite get. I really don't care if someone likes or dislikes what I am reading, it was the tone in which it was written & I felt it was written to make people who happen to like To Kill A Mockingbird, somehow wrong or dumb or something, & it wasn't a "critic", it was a GoodReads member such as we are LOL!!!

I am sure you will love it Joy
Jackie-some many times over recent years, I think back to 451 & so much of it sounds like today, the large TV screens, the real life shows, etc-I have to back & re read!!I do remember catching a very horrible movie version-I was flipping channels one night & found it....
Speaking of robots....when I was in high school, we were able to pick 2 English classes eahc year as Jr's & Sr's-it was a great thing. I did a drama class, business comp class & in my Sr year I did a sci fi class(the teacher was very young & very good looking!!). The class was so much fun!! We read R. U. R., Fahrenheit 451, The Illustrated Man-they were the ones I could think of-I still have the book we used for some of our reading....
Love Will Smith....Loved Cold Mountain....
& the review that I read here on Goodreads was one of the most negative things I have ever read....it was almost trying to write as much bad as possible, if that makes any sense....

Joy-can't wait to hear what you think of Cold Mountain....
I just finished To Kill A Mockingbird-my other book group is reading it & A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.....TKAM has stayed true to me & I was not disappointed in the least....I read a horrible review on Goodreads & it surprised me....

Jackie-that is so funny about your son....our son is a college Sr & he suggests all these movies & we have rented a few & have actually hated them-their brand of humor & ours are 2 very different things.....I don't think I am much of a comedy person though....he now knows not to suggest certain movies to me....LOL
Well Joy, I wouldn't say he is a "singer" but I would say if he was in Grease, he probably had to sing LOL & there were quite a few people singing in the movie Chicago who I wouldn't classify as "singers"-they were actors who had singing roles to me...I loved Shall We Dance.....the very first movie I ever saw him in was Looking For Mr Goodbar & I don't think you would care for it & then I couldn't wait for American Gigolo to come out!!! & then Officer & A Gentleman--should I go on???? LOL I love RG!!
Joy H. (of Glens Falls) wrote: "Who was in "Chicago" when you saw it on Broadway, Becky? I wish I had seen the play. As for the movie, I love Richard Gere, but I didn't think the part fit him well. His singing wasn't expressive e..."No one famous Joy(it was wonderful anyway) but I have to disagree with you on Richard Gere, I thought, as did my friends, that he was wonderful in Chicago & did so much to get into that role, I think the Academy was rude to not even have nominated him that year, I think it was a slap in the face for his outspokenness...
Jackie wrote: "No, I didn't get around to reading either. I get new movies the day they come out, otherwise I forget about them and never get to see them, LOLBoy in S P looks like it's very emotional, I know..."
When I read Boy In PJ's I had just gone thru a string of books that all had to do with that time period-all were emotional & moving, each in a different way. Sarah's Key is one that I found to be very good & Skeletons at the Feast(both will be movies) I too have a very hard time with that part of history & I am amazed & shocked by what I still learn from that era.....very upsetting & disturbing, to say the least....
