It's been on my list forever but I don't read a lot of science fiction. I tend to only read the classic sci fi books that are regarded as some of the best.
The holidays are looking to be especially hard on the local food pantries this year.
I have a food drive going on throughout the month of October at the Rock Hill Bakehouse in downtown Glens Falls. You can leave any non-perishable food items in the big blue bin for donation to the Family Service Association of Glens Falls.
Thanks.
This is one that I've always had on my "to-read" list but never got around to it. Classic science fiction and recognized as one of the best of the genre.
I'll be on Hits 95.9 Thursday morning between 7-8am again!
We're collecting school supplies for needy kids with the station's "School Tools" promotion and we'll be talking about the Family Service Associations "Feet First" program, which buys new shoes for kids to start the school year.
I'm still searching for a really great novel from 2009.
So far "Corsair" by Clive Cussler & Jack DuBrul is the best I've read from 2009.
I kind of agree with that review. I haven't read the book he's referring to but this one is good but it's also not great at the same time. It's an easy read but in the end it's not really that fulfilling because it seems like you've read this story a dozen times already in other novels and movies.
We were there but the rain stopped any walkup crowd at the Adirondack Drums so our collection was low. The Summer Jam had great weather but the food collection wasn't that great either. Times are tough now and the people that usually donate are looking for help themselves.
I've organized two big food drives in July!
July 1st at the Adirondack Drums Show at East Field I will be having a food drive to benefit the Family Service Association of Glens Falls. For more info;

July 3rd at the Summer Jam Concert at East Field I will be having the biggest food drive of the year to benefit both the Family Service Association of Glens Falls and The Open Door Soup Kitchen. Bring a can of food with you when you come out to hear the cast of Beatlemania doing a two-hour concert that covers the entire career of the Beatles plus some opening bands and the big fireworks show afterward! We will be set up in the parking lot before you go into the show. Tickets for this show are $3 and can be purchased at WCKM starting on June 10th.
Stop by and say hi!
I attended a screening of the movie "Loose Change" at the Wood Theater.
"Loose Change" is a 9/11 Truth movie that looks at a lot of holes in the official 9/11 story and makes you wonder what really happened that day.
160 people attended this event. It was the largest crowd for a movie screening that the theater has ever had.
One of the producers of the film came to Glens Falls and led a discusion afterward.
About a week later the theater announced that it was ending it's movie screenings. I'd hate to think that this was due to them having the courage to show controversial movies but I fear that that was what happened.
For a short time, we had a theater that was pushing the envelope with the movies that they were choosing to show and it was great.
I picked up a used DVD of "In The Electric Mist" from Blockbuster. I love James Lee Burke's books so any movies they make of his stories are also going to be added to my collection.
Stuart Woods is a good author but this one wasn't as good as the first in the series. It was kind of like he was going through the motions here.
This is book # 16 in the Stone Barrington series.
I've only read book # 1 but this is hot off the presses.
The movie was an excellent movie as well. Obviously they had to cut a lot out but they kept to the basic story. The book was excellent.
I've never read Nelson's books but Joseph Finder said in his newsletter that his early novels are like a master class in plotting.
I'm giving this one a try.
