758 DJ, I love the language in Brideshead Revisited, it's just so beautiful and poetic. The story and characters can also be great fodder for discussion, I think.

After you've read it you can also check out the movie.

758 I've seen this one. It's a little weird seeing Indian-style dancing & singing in English, but fun. And it was a nice surprise to see 'Rory' as Darcy's sister!

758 Thanks, DJ. I'll find the right mood to read it so I can enjoy the book properly :)

758 I just bought The Woman in White for 50% off at a book fair over the weekend :D Don't know when I'm gonna read it, but I'm glad I decided to get it.

758 Dottie: Yes, the discussions for the chosen selections will take place. The last book we voted on was The Awakening for December reading, and we'll definitely be holding a discussion for it.

758 Katri, you can put "SPOILERS" on the top of your post to be on the safe side. I think it would also be a good idea to mark how far you've gone, e.g Spoilers for Chapter 10, or Spoilers for the whole book, etc.

758 Does anyone else's copy of the book have the tour of the locations in Barcelona at the back? It's pretty cool.

758 Meghan: Post the thesis? Er... now what did I write about it actually... oh I forgot. LOL.

758 Congrats on finishing the Vanity Fair marathon, Meghan! :D

758 Anybody started The Shadow of the Wind yet? I started it yesterday and have already underlined three passages in the first part alone. My favorite (don't have the book with me now so I'm paraphrasing) is the one about how the first book that finds its way into a reader's heart will always stay there. This certainly looks like a promising book for book lovers!

Those two books should be interesting to compare/contrast as they are quite the opposite from each other. Coraline is a short children's book while American Gods reads like a saga and is for adults. I remember it took me so long to finish AG.

758 Oh yay! I didn't expect this to get the most votes. This one is quite short so it should read pretty quick. The book is also dear to my heart as I wrote my undergraduate thesis on it :)

758 It took me so long to finish this book and even longer to comment about it here, LOL. It was very sarcastic and funny but just drags on and on. I agree that Dobbin was adorable, and Crawley didn't turn out too bad in the end -- I guess he learned his lesson. One cannot help sympathizing with Amelia, although her meekness and lack of willpower frustrate me.

During the course of the story I repeatedly considered the question whether or not Rebecca has a heart. In the end I conclude that she has, only she doesn't let it show or she is too accustomed to not using it. Yes, she is deceitful and can turn against anyone and stab them in the back if she has to, but it seems to me that she does have a soft spot for Amelia -- a very, very small and neglected spot, but significant nonetheless (especially since Becky doesn't seem to have a shred of affection for little Rawdon, her own flesh and blood!). She was rather shocked when Amelia confronted her about her dalliance with George in Brussels, and she was the one who told Amelia she should accept Dobbin.

758 Grain de Beaute, have you read Gaiman's Coraline? It's another one of his children's books I really liked.

758 Meghan, it also took me long to finish Vanity Fair, but once you finish it'll make you feel so accomplished, like finishing a marathon or something. LOL.
