744 I've never thought of Anita Shreve as chick lit, at least in what I think of as chick lit, but maybe she is chick lit for an older woman. I don't know if I'd call it "fluff" but her books definitely aren't for everyone. I've read several and have liked some more than others but haven't ever put one down because I couldn't read it. But if your tastes run more to the other authors that you mentioned above, then I can understand why you wouldn't like Shreve. But then again, maybe I'm weird because I like the other authors you mentioned and Shreve as well.

744 I've read most of her books and they are enjoyable reads, not great literary works but enjoyable reads. So I say definitely read them but don't expect Proust or anything. And Peggy is right, she is a hoot in person. Very funny lady!

744 Robert, I agree with you about Pet Sematary...so much so that it's the only Stephen King book I have ever read. I won't read another one because that one scared me so much!

744 I have never read any of his work but I have On Chesil Beach currently checked out from the library. Should I start somewhere else or am I fine starting with the newest one? Also, what else would you recommend of his work?

744 A Prayer for Owen Meany is one of my all-time favorite books but another one of my Irving favorites is A Widow for One Year. They made a movie of it (The Door In The Floor w/ Kim Basinger and Jeff Bridges) but the book is amazing. I loved it!
