I am currently reading this and so far I am really enjoying it. I have not read anything by the author previously but just happened upon his book at the library. If you have read anything by Peter Mayle (A Year in Provence) it is similar in that they both discuss the various personalities of the villagers, trying to buy a house in a foreign country and what a small village life is like. The difference in Collins' book is that he quotes amusing passages from the old books (like 1700's old) that he finds in his daily book hunts and this really set his book apart in a good way. It's like reading one book but also getting to dip your toes into other books that you might never have read. He has some strong personal views but nothing to turn the general population off. It really is about books and if you love to read, I think this book will interest you.
