Yep, mate, she is 'sweet as' & obedient as much as a 7 year old can be, but, she does listen to grandad, then goes off merrily singing word for word Taylor Swift & co. do I get through? I can only hope so LOL!!

721 G'day Mandy, I don't have a problem with the American use of the abbreviation '9-11' or their vocabulary, what I'm not happy with is our kids becomming & sounding more Americanised each day, I have seen them in town here & the usual greet is 'yo bro whats on the go man' & recently overheard a group of young girls 'wow guys, thats so gagga' I like listening to my American friends talk, the same way, I'm sure, they like to hear our vernacular, all I'm saying is, Australians have a unique vocabulary & vernacular, why should we imitate someone else & risk loosing part of our heritage. I have 'pulled' my grandaughter up a couple of times & explained the difference between American & Australian, certain phrases or words.

721 Totally agree Gail. & one of my pet hates at the moment is this '9-11' it's September 11th everyone. & our news media people are just as bad.
721 Well now, it must be good to be 21 again (-: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Gail.

721 Fair dinkum Jenny, you should visit the far, far north of Qld, you will often hear that as well as dunny, cobber, stone the crows, maaaaate!, your shout bloke, on ya bike, etc. etc. etc. I love our unique 'Aussie' vernacular & am so sad & angry at the amount of Americanisms infiltrating our youths vocabulary. I'm a fair dinkum aussie & bloody proud of it (-:

721 2nd Last time I was in Canberra it was minus 4 deg. I was unloading my truck, dressed like the 'Michelin man', & still didn't work up a sweat, last time the area had record heat & the air con in the car decided to 'pull the pin' & I think the bulk of the hot air was around that huge white place there. LOL!

721 Jan & Gail, most Japanese poetry is based on Haiku & it is one of the oldest forms of poetry in the world.
Unfortunately (& this is only my opinion & what I have researched) some early American academics could'nt handle the syllable structure, so, decided to 'change the rules' whereas now one can read so called American Haiku that has varied syllable counts, personally, I prefer the challenge of the original counts.

Here is 2 of my 'Tanka' poems.

Loss

His broken heart pains,
turns his back then walks away
from this fresh dirt mound
where his darling now resides,
for this hurt will not abate.

Whales

In this great expanse
they breach the oceans surface
show their weathered tail
then splash in magnificence
on their yearly migration.
