One of my buddies, who is also a member of this group, told me about her love affair with Murakami. Somehow, she figured I'd fall in love as well. She suggested I start with Wind-up Bird Chronicle or Kafka on the Shore. I picked the first, since it was the biggest and I was in the mood for a long novel. It took me a couple weeks to get through, because it was such a dense and disturbing story and I hadn't read anything like it in a while. It reminded me of my first time reading Marquez. I was completely confused, blindsided, and thrilled to the bone. Afterwards I picked up Sputnik Sweetheart, Wild Sheep Chase, and Underground. My stomach still flips when I think about it. Hmmm. I think it's time to read another.
