I think Anne Rice's novels could stand alone they aren't exactly classic Gothic but close enough and pretty bad ass. I also really enjoyed Steven Savile's Vampire Wars, again not exactly classic Gothic but very good.

They are both series but very good ones. No sparkling, no "vegetarian" vampires, and no invites necessary.

6998 Maybe she did as well but like I said, Meyer made a mess of it. But Harris made it her own without making it repulsive to read/watch.

I, too, do not believe that the sun kills vamps (I have a tendency of correcting people on that, which some see as a "know it all" thing of me to do).

I agree with you, Cary. Although, I think being looked away and unable to feed would be worse then dying.

I think Meyer stole some concepts from Buffy. She tried to make them her own, but she just made a horrible mess of it. For instance the forbidden relationship between Buffy and Angel... I don't know how to properly explain what I mean but if you've seen Buffy you'll understand.

6998 I fully agree with you.

6998 Depends on who I am biting. Generally the neck and wrist. If it is a woman I might bite her chest and thighs.

6998 I have decided not to continue reading Blue Bloods, too high fashion and "poor little rich kid" drama. I'm still undecided about House of Night Series and Sookie Stackhouse Series.

I also found a really good series called Vampire Wars by Steven Savile.

6998 I've read Anne Rice and Dracula. I love those.
I've read many vampire books, just looking for something new.

6998 My plan is to read every vampire story I can find but some of these just don't seem worth it.

Thanks for that link Cary.

6998 House of Night Series
Blue Bloods Serious
Sookie Stackhouse Series

I've marked these books as "Undecided about reading"
I've heard mixed reviews about Sookie Stackhouse and House of Night, and from what I hear they are somewhat... mundane.

I just read Blue Bloods and I'm undecided on how I feel about it - it was as good as I had hoped. I don't know if it's worth continuing the serious.

So I thought I'd ask fellow Vampire lovers what their take on these books are and whether you think they are worth reading.

Thanks!
