Teresa - I plan to read the house of night series soon. Heard good things about it.
Thanks for the telling me about masq. cause I was a little worried I wouldn't like it. I enjoyed the first book, but didn't know if I liked where I thought it was heading....
Teresa - How was Evernight? I have seen it in the bookstore but wasn't sure. I also just finished Blue Bloods and liked it.
When I started the book, I had a hard time getting into it. I had just finished a bunch of books about 30 and 40 year old women, then I jumped to teenagers. About 50 pages in, I was hooked.
Since I have read Twilight, I have lent my book to family, friends, and co-workers. I had them sign their name in the inside cover and date it after they were done. I now have 9 signatures and 10 is in the process.
I love chatting with people to see how they reacted to the series differently then me. I always love a new perspective.
I love that this series is enjoyed by everyone from 13-65. I have talked to many mothers and they are readings this along with their daughters. They have something in common and the lines of communication are open wide. I have found that vast variety of people enjoy this series, no matter what genre they normally read.
I have noticed that people are divided about the outcomes in the last book. Some people were disappointed and upset, while others were happy and satisfied with the ending.
I enjoyed it myself greatly and was surprised by a few twists and turns along the way. I am sad that it had to end but I'm glad she stopped before it started to become a "cookie-cutter" series.
I loved the following:
The World On Blood by: Jonathan Nasaw
Twilight series by: Stephanie Meyer
Blue Boods by: Melissa de la Cruz
These 3 books have different styles of vampires. I think that is why I like them. Reading different ideas about vampires and how they live really opens up your idea to the immortal creatures.
The World on Blood - Is about a rare group of humans that get "high" on blood drinking. They all start out in VA (Vampires Anonymous) because it's like a dryg to them.
Twilight - Is about a "vegan" vampires that only kill animals for food. The "traditional" hazards don't apply to them. eg: hunt at night, sleep in the day, garlic is bad, and crucixes are harmful.
Blue Bloods - This one is very different then the "traditional" formula. They don't become blood thirsty till they mature, there are only 400 total. They don't have to drain anybody either. This concept of this book is new to me.
I don't know when I first became fascinated with Vampires. I think that the greatest love story is Bram Stoker's Draclua. I loved the immortal love between them. I'm in love with idea that I would love be a vampire in history like anne rice's characters and see the world revolve and change around you. I like the dark, sexy, and dangerous aspects.
This is how I see the whole drinking blood to stay alive. I think that when you become a vampire the thirst will take over and you won't have a choice. We kill other animals for food so It doesn't bother me.
I'm reading a book, Blue Bloods, where you don't have to drain your human entirely and you are fine hunger wise.
I also like that the way you can "turn" is through the exchange of blood. That way you can handpick who you want to become vampires and who you just want to feed on.
Melissa - On twilight, I don't listen to what people say about it most of the time. I love the concept, the writing, the plot. I read what people have to say BUT I haven't really gotten into "the hype" with the exception of discussing it with my friends.
About the "blood" drinking, I can't understand why they would take a fantasy like that and try to make it reality. That is crazy. I love vampires and I love the whole "dark, sexy, and dangerous" aspect of them BUT I wouldn't go as far as blood drinking. I think that she is not happy with her life in some way and is trying to hide in a "fantasy" entirely. I hope that it's just a phase and I know that you will be there for her when she realizes what she is doing.
I think that Nessie and Bella's "gift" was really amazing. I also wouldn't mind Edward or Alice's gift but I can see how that would also be a curse after awhile.
I have always wanted to "morph" also. Not like entire different person BUT simple things like "changing" clothes, hair, kinda like a witch.
sun is my choice. Also they way Claudia tried to kill Lestat in "interview" looked kinda bad.
Also the way blade killed the blood god in the first movie had to hurt also.
I hate to sound like a broken record but: Edward and Alice from Twilight. I think that Lestat from Anne Rice and Dracula from Bram Stoker's is close behind. I would want to start in the "past" and travel a lot like in Interview. I would have loved to seen New Orleans and London back then.
The "slayer" or "warrior" that I would love to follow is: the group from Blade Trinity and Serena from Underworld. Of course go kicking butt and loving it.
The one that I would avoid(and the location too) is: Selma Hyack (from dusk till dawn) (don't think I spelled here last name right but you get the pic.)
