6968 I just picked up Annie Proulx's "Close Range: Tales of Wyoming" and Khaled Hosseini's "A Thousand Splendid Suns." I'm about half-way through "Splendid Suns" and thus far I like it!

6968 I've read 33 of them...I don't really get why To Kill a Mockingbird is on there, I guess because of the accusation of rape. I also don't understand "The Outsiders," and "A Day No Pigs Would Die."

6968 I think I share the majority of the thoughts! Formulaic is the perfect word. Someone told me I should read "Plain Truth" because it's not like some of the others, so maybe I'll give her another chance.

6968 I love Obama. My two year old has a Barack shirt (it's too big, though). We can't stand Palin. The whole winking, smirking, "you-betcha" attitude is insulting. Who buys that crap as sincere?!

And wait...She wrote a book?!

Tina Fey's impression is spooky in its accuracy! :)

6968 I've been taking some flak lately because I don't think Jodi Picoult is a great writer. I did like "My Sister's Keeper" but every one I read after that (The Tenth Circle, The Pact, and some other ones I can't remember) seemed all the same. Like I was reading the same book over and over again.

Am I alone in thinking she's not all that exceptional?

6968 I don't like graphic reads, so I will avoid that one. I think I'll add Enduring Love to my "to-reads" though.

6968 I recommend The Poisonwood Bible.
Also "Welding with Children" by Tim Gautreaux and "Hunting for Hope" by Scott Russell Sanders.

I'm also looking for books to add to my "to-read" list

6968 I read "Atonement" because I thought I should. It seems like one of those books a book-lover should read. However, I did not like it.

I was not drawn to the characters or McEwans's style. I am curious about other books he has written, though.

6968 Hi! I'm Leah--another HS English teacher and I love it!

I love fiction but have recently been caught up in non-fiction; I just finished "the Glass Castle" and I want to start "Running with Scissors" soon.

My favorite books are ones by Chaim Potok and my favorite of ALL TIME is Barbara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible."
