Almost all of my groups appear dead. I think it's a normal November-December occurrence - a drastic slow down in online activity at social sites.
I've read 10 of the books, none of the short story collection, and 1 of the comics. I have a bunch of the others on my to-read shelf.
This happens in San Francisco too. I think they're trying to be the buddies/pals/friends of the viewing audience. They want us to watch them constantly. It has the opposite effect on me, but I enjoy watching local stations for the weather and local news, so I do watch some of it. They're ingratiating but really it's just annoying.
Thanks Brooke. I never saw the movie but the book has been one of my very favorites since I first read it at age 8. I got more & more from it as I got older. I can't imagine liking this new book anywhere near as much but I'll definitely read it.
Debbie, Oh, I agree. For this Olympics I'm thrilled with Rio. And overall, I think the U.S. has hosted too many times too.
Sarah, I was sad when San Francisco lost out on their bid for a summer Olympics, partly because we have such a great climate for the athletes.
I like quirky and good acting too. I'm thinking about what's out now... None might be as good as the movies you mentioned.
Okay, Bun.Well I have friends who've enjoyed 500 Days of Summer and Bright Star.
I'd also like to see Taking Woodstock.
I'm one of the few that didn't really like District 9.
Bun, What are your favorite types of movies? Some favorite movies?
I think that Rio was the right choice. It will be way too hot for the athletes though, but Chicago would have been hot & humid as well.
Jackie, I feel the same way, but I still hate it. If he was being ironic, most readers who love the book don't seem to get that, so he didn't do a very good job, in my opinion.
Introvert or extrovert?I'm mostly an introvert, but I happen to be very outgoing.
What recharges your batteries?
reading, Goodreads, exercise (when my knees permit), nature, being with one friend at a time, talking with friends on the phone
Early bird or night owl?
Well, I have a problem. I like to stay up late and usually can't go to sleep early, but I like getting most things out of the way early in the day: work, school classes when I was in school, errands, etc. So, I try to get up early. I never get enough sleep, especially since I haven't regularly napped since I turned two.
Sarah, Yes, they're both sad, especially The Giving Tree. I"ll have to read The Lorax again to refresh my memory.
Bun, I'm intrigued. What do you have in mind? If I/we know some of your thoughts we might be better able to give some of our ideas.
The Giving Tree isn't Seuss. AND, I hate that book. The Giving Tree seems to have mostly 5 star ratings but I'm far from the only rater who's given it 1 star only.
