6369 Greetings from the mothership - having such a great time, wish you were here!

6369 *nods head*

I've heard so many stories of people being in limboland with MS for years and years because doctors aren't listening to the symptoms, and instead assume the patient is just depressed or suffering from delusional hysteria. Which is terrible because the earlier the detection, the less disability one accrues. MS is a tricky disease to diagnose, that's for sure, I totally understand, but so many symptoms are utterly dismissed.

Plus, with a majority of clinics you don't even see the same doctor, and can't establish a relationship, nor can the doctor get the big picture of you or your body as a whole, they just see separate illnesses or symptoms instead of your body as an integrated whole.

I'm so glad I have the doctor I do have. She's also a family practitioner, sees our whole family so not only gets the whole person but also the person as integrated within the family.

6369 Bun, just saw your comment and I agree absolutely! I just switched MS Specialist because of that very fact - communication and personal ability to relate. Also the people, from receptionists to staff are much warmer. I feel like a human being walking in there instead of just a number.

There was an article in our paper about how some clinics are seeing the importance of doctor/patient communication and how some are even taking classes. Naturally, I had Richard contact Group Health here, since they were cited as having an actual department now to deal with the lack of communication, and how their studies show that this not only helps with health but also time - patients understand what they need to do and why and so no longer have to make so many subsequent appointments.

6369 Well sheesh I do look at degrees, schools and experience. In addition to communication and being treated as human to human.

6369 I've become pretty OCD about recycling in my house. Drives me nuts when my boys throw either food or plastics or whatever that should go into the various bins. I go picking thu the garbage, eeeeew!

As for clothes, these days I buy recycled - GoodWill, ebay. I do love that Patagonia practice!

6369 It's all Paul's fault. He was completely and certifiably crazy when it came to women. Must not have been breast fed!
Oct 20, 2009 08:45AM

6369 Was he in that too? I must not have been watching Monk yet so didn't know him as an actor! I've just put Gattaca on my Blockbuster list.

6369 This is absolutely disgusting that in this time of health care crisis, she's taking Aetna to court!!!! I'M PISSED!

Notice how this is a rich kid's disease? What a load of crap. It's a Dalton epidemic!

In some cases, I think this growth hormone is OK, and that is if the kid is abnormally short and for some reason isn't growing to their genetics. Sometimes I wonder about one of Jake's best friends, who is still the same size he was in elementary school, and even then he was very short. But he's still quite young, you never know he might shoot up 6 inches in 1 month when he's 16. Kids can grow even when they are 20.

This makes me sick. She says it's his right. OHHHHHH.

6369 Yummy yummy how I love garlic!

I hate to say this but I really hate CFLs. Firstly, they don't work as dimmers, just go to full. Secondly there's always a long delay until they come on. But lastly and most important, they are too blue. I like full spectrum lights, or at least a bit more yellow. So no, in my reading areas and the dimmers, I'm still using the full spectrum regular bulbs. I do hear that they are working on better CFLs.

But to make up for that I recycle like crazy! Seattle now has yard and food waste bins, so I make sure to put every scrap I have in those. That's in addition to the plastics and papers recycle bins. All the houses have their own, so it's not hard, and altho it takes a bit more effort on my part I'm happy to do it.

6369 Newsweek gave it a good review.

I've never heard any of the fiction books.
6369 Huh, there was recently an article about this somewhere else - either Newsweek or The NY Times Book Review. Percy definitely did contribute, Mary sought his opinions, that's a given. But it was all Mary's conception, she wrote it, he edited it with her blessing. His editing did include alot more than other editors, but I would hardly call it a collaboration! It's really insulting.
6369 I agree Debbie. I don't know why people are blaming Obama either.

6369 And shy also has a negative connotation. What's wrong with being shy?
6369 That is so very interesting! I'm just fascinated by all the new discoveries being made. And isn't it something that we still are enearthing things from so far in the past.
Oct 01, 2009 10:28AM

6369 Hahaha, barking and yipping!

I do think introverts are completely misunderstood, because to all the extraverts, it has a negative connotation. Unsociable, reclusive, psychological problems, etc.
Sep 30, 2009 11:13AM

6369 Definitely an introvert, I love being alone. Yet I also need to get out into the world every day, even if it's walking my dog and just exchanging smiles. Acquaintances are always shocked if I mention I'm an introvert, because when I'm out and about I seem very extroverted, love talking to people and socializing. But only small groups or 1 on 1, large crowds exhaust me. And while I do love interacting with other people, more than 2 hours is too much, what a relief to come home afterwards! So I'm like Lisa, an outgoing introvert.

Recharging my batteries: napping (heh) reading, being in nature, stretching.

If left to my own devices, ie no outside schedule imposed on me, I'm definitely a night owl. Yet like others have mentioned, I get more done in the morning if I get up. Lately I have been getting up with Jake - I used to go back to sleep after he left to catch the school bus, but now I've shifted my schedule.

6369 Nice points, Brooke.

Didn't know the feminist blogs were screeching about this. Yep, it's becoming a pissing contest. That poor woman. As far as I'm concerned, the rape trial is over and done with. Was 30 years ago. And he has paid to the satisfaction of the victim. Now I know, it's money and not time, but again, the case was closed to the satsfaction of all parties involved. Except the judge.

And I'm curious as to why he was arrested now - everyone has always known where he was, he's been in Switzerland before.
Sep 28, 2009 11:36AM

6369 I think we all know the full story, yes?

So, what are your thoughts? I'm very much undecided about this. On the one hand, I think the original trial turned into a witch hunt with a crazy judge, the case was all settled when the judge decided to go back on the deal. So I think the rape charge should be done with.

However, the guy did evade the US legal system...

6369 What? Mars is suffering climate change too? Spooky! :)
Sep 24, 2009 08:11AM

6369 Hahaha, yeah I just woke up. I've now had sufficient coffee to get brain gears back in smooth motion and wince over that sentence.

Lesson learned (again) - don't talk until some caffeine is imbibed!
