Debbie wrote: "Yes. I am an Obama fan....but I think this award is definitely premature and I am surprised he accepted it. Feet of clay after all? The Obama of (increasing) legend would not have accepted it."How could he not accept it? It would have been seen as ungracious and a slap in the face to the Nobel prizes.
Has anyone noticed that fast food all tastes the same? I mean not just that MacDonalds tastes like Wendys tastes like Taco Bell, but also that everything on a single fast food menu tastes the same. The burgers taste like the chicken which tastes like the BLT which tastes like the taco which taste like the beef which tastes like....
Yech. Already I've already gone and lost my appetite.
Wouldn't it be fun to read the history of the world chronologically in novels. Or do you think it's an idea better in the telling than in the doing?
Making art. For years it was the last thing I thought about at night, and the first in the morning. I painted passionately while I got my second Bachelors, and then my MFA, and 20 years afterwards. I still make art, but not as often and not with the same degree of urgency. And my art now is mostly tied to my current passion--poetry.I miss it. But I don't miss having paint on all my shoes.

I thought Angela's Ashes was wonderful. This plucky kid maneuvering his way through a horror of a childhood. A sad story laced with hope and humor.People are leaving comments over at http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/0...
Amazing how many of them are former students, full of praise and love for McCourt as a teacher.
When Leif and I married in July 1973, we put together 5 kids (10-19) 3 cats, 2 dogs, 3 aquaria, a rabbit and a hamster. It was 105 degrees. The air conditioner immediately went on the fritz, and the septic tank stopped up.

How do you get people to watch when so many have already read the book? Golly, I'd think people who've read the book would be more likely to watch the series. If I've read a book and I think it's good (which Middlesex was), I'm more likely to watch the film than not.
