61300 I have been reading a lot about Cornelius Gurlitt, his father was a Nazi-era art dealer (Hildebrand Gurlitt). Tax officials discovered the cache when they visited the Munich apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt in early 2012. It was not made public until the German Magazine Focus published an article about it in the April 2013. There has been a lot of debate about what should be done with the art, how much of it is Nazi loot and what rightfully belongs to Gurlitt and how best to return looted artworks to their rightful owners or their descendants.

61300 I think this book would make a decent introduction to the Monuments Men and what they did, on the hand it is very dry being very fact based not a lot of 'story telling' involved. I came to this book after reading about specific artworks (Mona Lisa, Ghent Altarpiece, etc...) that had history during WWII. I knew about the Monuments Men contribution to the recovery of art such as the well known Altaussee salt mine, so I enjoyed the greater detail of events I found in this book.

-The movie is now suppose to come out February 7, 2014. It is directed by George Clooney, who also co-wrote and produced. I have watched the trailer and it does not seem to follow actual events much, but previews lie, so here's hoping.

61300 Hello Joel,

Sorry about such a long delayed response, I normally answer faster. To answer your question, I try to read all the books I post but sometimes I can't. If I do I write a review and hope others like yourself discuss the book. Hope that helps. Feel free comment on any of the previous books we have read.

61300 On the night of March 18, 1990, a pair of thieves disguised as Boston police officers entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and roamed the Museum’s galleries, stealing thirteen works of art.

For more information:
http://www.gardnermuseum.org/resource...

Recently there has been some suggestion that the FBI knows who had stolen the thirteen artworks from The Gardener Museum 23 years ago. Whether this lead to the recovery of the artwork or not is to be seen.

And here are a few links.
