Well, our school only orders once a year so that might work, although I would love to get ahold of it SOON, but I guess I will just have to wait. I order from Follett, will they have pre-orders?
Swati, I really like what Blackbox and your book Split, sound like, I am going to get them asap. Thanks for the suggestions~
Other favorites are Alex Flinn, Terry Trueman, Elizabeth Scott, Markus Zusack, Gary Schmidt and Sonneblick (forget his lst name, right now) and Dana Davidson, Dana Reinhardt and Patricia McCormick, I could go on and on....
Lynn, please add my name also, I am a high school librarian (grades 10-12)in Abington, PA and would love if you could share the results with me, I would appreciate it. My name is bjneary@ comcast.net
Drama filled and realistic drinking, drugs, friendship, race relations, pregnancy, etc. AND vampire lit is still strong in my school, also urban fiction and certain writers are popular like Ellen Hopkins, Paul Volponi, Laurie Halse Anderson (Twisted) Gary Schmidt, Jordan Sonneblick, Walter Dean Meyers, Sarah Dessen, etc.
Romiette and Julio by Sharon Draper
and
Beastly by Alex Flinn
are YA books with classical connections
and any of Donna Jo Napoli's books
I just loved this Alie book- he so deserve the National Book Honor. The book is compelling and funny at the same time. I read it, passed it on to my son who had to read it for a college class and he also loved it. It is on our Reading Olympics list this year and we make up questions and answers for quizzing the students...well I started reading it again to come up with the questions and COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! Now that is a great book!
Mahina- I agree with everyhting you have said above ----I have a white boxer, Layla--see my picture! I would like to be your friend, I am a HS librarian (who loved reading, booktalking and working with teens) but I can't answer your question---sorry!
Nancy Werlin books, Wittlinger books, E.R. Frank books, John Green books, Chris Crutcher packs a punch too!
Like everyone above- I have too many to name but I will add some that are not on the list yet:
Paul Volponi
Barry Lyga
Neal Shusterman
K.L. Going
Nick Hornby
Mackler (author of Vegan Virgin Valentine & Guyaholic)
Laurie Halse Anderson
etc.
NOW my favorite YA series----Sharon Draper's books about Hazelwood High
Stephanie Meyer's Twilight
and Holly Black's Tithe
Didn't you jusdt love Beofre I Die??? I couldn't put it down either and I loved Tessa, Zoey, Adam (I'd like to have someone just like him!!!) and Tessa's family. But the anguish you feel as you read is really hard, but Tessa has happiness for a little while--right?
I am a grownup and on Facebook too (I also have a facebook with my school club)--I will ask you to be my friend---I am a grade 10-12 librarian in a suburban high school with 2500 students and I do lots of book talks, love to read and I have your latest Harley book to review for PSLA--I haven't read the others before---does that matter?
BJ
Awesome! Thanks so much- I took a look at some of the other teen categories and will come back to them!
