Or stay on the treadmil cause the book is almost done. Or in a bathtub till the water is cold because.. The book is almost done!
Jen I found that book very dull. It might not be the reader as much as it is the book. That book went on and on and on forever!
Dacia,Yea people didn't get it with me either. They couldn't argue with the results though. For me the reason it worked so well is that I have A.D.D. I almost always have to do at least 2 things at once in order to keep focus.
I am glad to hear I am not the only one.
Firecat,That is so interesting. You mentioned certain readers being tied to a story. I feel like that with George Guidall. I used to listen to books 8 hours a day to make my boring data entry job not make me want to blow my brains out. I listen to most of the "Cat Who" books because I knew they would always be amusing. I liked the characters, although most had no real plot. Anyway he will forever be tied to those books for me. I also always felt he was a little pompus, but it doesn't bother me much.
I also can't listen to Jim Dale with out thinking of Harry Potter. Even when I hear him on pushing up daisy's I automaticaly think of Harry.
Are there any narrarators you really don't like to listen to? Any you would suggest others avoid?
I have found it is rare that I like a author narrarated book. I do tend to like actor narrarated books.
Steven King, Madaline L'Engal(I know I just misspelled her name) I am thinking there was one other author I didn't like as a narrarator.
I am not particularly fond of Scott Brick either he makes me feel like I am on edge constantly. I remember getting annoyed with Frank Muller as well. I tend to listen for hours at a time. I suppose that could be the problem.
Anyway I was wondering if there any out there you all couldn't stand.
I am listening to Animal Vegtable Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver, read by Barbara Kingsolver. I am loving it! I also feel like every American should read this book! Increadably informative yet engaging as well. I pretty much don't do non-fiction and am having no problem getting through this book. There is so much information though that I am getting a hard copy to have around as a reference.
Also I have not had good experiences with author read books in the past. Although, to be fair the only ones I have listened to are Steven King. I find Mrs. Kingsolver a very good reader. Her husband not so much, Her daughter is entertaining as well though.
I am currently listening to Animal Vegitable Miracle. Barbara Kingsolver is reading it and she is amazing! Loving the book itself so informative in fact I need to get a hard copy so I can use it as a reference.
Thank you Maureen. I just checked this site out I felt like a kid in a candy store. All the titles I have been wanting to read that the library doesn't have!
John thank you soo much! I am still working on loading the Poisonwood Bible, 3 more cd's to go you just saved me a lot of typing!
Ok this is going to be a vent. I check out audio books from the library. Then I rip them to my puter and listen to them on my ipod.
I am wondering if I am the only one that hates when cd's aren't labeled right. I mean when you go to rip them they come up as something they aren't, or nothing at all just track1, track 2.
I am loading Barbara Kingslover's Poisonwood Bible right now. So far I have had to redo the information on every cd. What is worse, there are like 100 tracks to be relabled. I am getting carple tunnel because I prefer the library (free) to audible.com.
Am I the only one who has this problem? Is there a easier way I am missing? Love audio's, hate getting them from the library to my ipod.
I wanted to add my vote for Nathaniel Parker. I am listening to Artemis Fowl books currently. I am really enjoying his reading.
I just checked out Motherless Brooklyn on your guys recomendation. I have no idea what it is about.
I like most of Steven Kings writing, however, I do not like his reading. Not to be mean but he has a nasely quatilty to his voice that just annoys me.
Teddy: it isn't like a computer screen. It isn't back lit. I can't pretend to know how it works but they call it true paper technology or something like that.
I love 2 things about it. The eco friendlyness of it. Not only is it not killing tree's it isn't pouring more noxious admitions in the air from being shipped. Also I love the idea of having all my books at my finger tips, and the ability to buy new ones quickly. Well I guess three things. The ebooks are cheaper.
I just did the reading this sounds fantastic! However, I think I am going to wait till they have a more extensive library, untill they worked the bugs out, and untill the price comes down a little.
Have you ever read it? I don't even care for romances and that book just captivated me.
Thank you for the compliment.
Ok I did it. I made an Audio Books shelve. I do have this fear though that now people on good reads judge me as non-literary because most of my books are audio. Supose I need to get over that. People probably judge me as non-literary more because my choices in books then how I got the story's into my brain.
Ok I am loving Paperbackswap.com. I got requests the first day I posted books. I haven't ordered anything yet. However I am thinking I might tonight.
Thank you Mock, can I add you as a friend there? I am gonna have to dig around the house this weekend and find some books to post to get going with it.
