My Influences (5 new)

58820 While I was hooked on Tolkein and Lewis quite young, I gravitated to sf writers like Larry Niven, and then found inspiration in Chandler and Hammet. Lately, I've been trying to learn the lessons taught by the pantheon of Fitzgerald, Hemingway and more modern writers, as well.

I don't like the idea of being confined to a genre, and I like stories that can pull together ideas and influences from a wide range of authors.

What I have liked and tried to gain inspiration from most recently I have discovered is called "magic realism": Gabriel Gacia Marquez, Mark Helprin, Bulgakov, for example.

58820 I really liked the absurdity and the way it poked fun at the idea of nobility and royalty.

58820 Oh, I guess I should add a little more. I am an avid reader as well as a writer. Our family reads a lot, although the kids read more online than books.

I am also an author, and I was both proud and happy to give a 5* review to Dragonfriend. I'm looking forward to reading more of Leonard the Great's adventures.
