Although there is no doubt that Long Sun is the lesser of the three, I have always believed that to be because Silk is so worthless in all ways. However, upon reflection a contributing factor is the miriad of tangential details that detract rather then enrich.

The Fifth Head of Cerberus is a fav of mine as well... I also hated peace.

I think Short Sun stands well against New Sun once you shake out the came-first-syndrome.

I do recommend reading New Sun again before launching into Long Sun (and then again before launching into Short Sun... and again afterwards)

I liked it, but hardly the best he has done. Not sure how An Evil Guest is more confusing than anything else he has written (Gene loves non-linear timelines a lot).

I highly recommend reading straight through the Urth, Long, and Short Sun stuff.

Book of the New Sun holds a special place for me, but I think Book of the Short Sun may be better. Knight/Wizard and Soldier are high up as well.
