54239 I count a book I never finished in my GR challenge. And rereads. I know everybody has differing opinions of what constitutes 'read', but I feel if you have read enough of the book (usually half of it) it counts as read.
You still read it, you just didn't read it all the way through.

54239 How's everybody going in the Goodreads Reading Challenge? Not long now to complete our goals.

I had to push my number back from 50 to 40. I simply couldn't see myself making my goal this year as I got too far behind at the beginning of the year.

To make 40 I am still 10 books behind, but I am reading quite a few photography books right now and I think I can make that 40 goal.
54239 Dragging up this old thread from January 2014 to say that I have finally watched the Keanu Reeves movie of the same name.
Pretty dull movie, but whoa! Full blown fantasy tale. Not like this John Allyn book at all in that respect.

54239 I saw on your profile that one of your dogs just finished his degree in chemistry, the other one looks to be having a stellar career as a Pimp. You set the bar high for your dogs. ;D
54239 I was going to try to get in on this group read, but I can't get the book in time for the group read. One trip to the library planned before Christmas and I can't get it brought from a different library to the one I go to in time to pick it up when I am there.
54239 Nah, I don't prefer mysteries. I just don't like Roman fiction. :) My reading interests are more Norse and Saxon in origin. In saying that, I do read plenty of other eras, but for some reason Roman fiction doesn't do anything for me. Roman non fiction I am fine with.
I have the same problem with Egyptian fiction.

I have read some Roman fiction that I have really liked though ie M.C. Scott and Robert Harrisbooks, so I know I am capable of liking some. That's why I push myself to read a few every year. In case I do end up liking one or two. ;)

54239 haha. Wind in the Willows flashbacks are always nice. I enjoy them myself. :)

54239 Checking the online bookstores in Australia that I use and I can't even see a paperback edition on The Long Sword. usually they will have it, and then have the release date under it.

On the UK Book Depository site (my back up for books) it shows the paperback as released 20 November only it says underneath it 'currently unavailable'.

It is all very confusing. As if the publisher isn't sure they want to release a paperback yet.

I don't like ebook reading. I've tried it, it isn't for me. I have one of those brains that only recognises paper books as a book worth reading. Words on a computer screen my brain processes differently.
54239 I understand exactly what you are saying, Beth. A 'severe accessibility problem' is an excellent way to put it.
I am still not sure where I am going to land with this one. I admire the writing quality so much, I only wish the story itself was more addictive.

I'm going to be brutally honest...my opinion is, if you didn't like Gates of Fire, Paul, you are not going to find anything by Pressfield that is any better.
Even those who loved Gates have not found his other books to be great.

naturally, since we are all different readers and like and dislike different things, there will always be some people who found other books by Pressfield that they liked. Some even found books they liked more than Gates.
But from my observations. Gates is his best work. If it didn't impress a reader, I think they'll be even less impressed by his other stuff.

And nobody is going to be cranky or feel offended that you didn't like Gates. :D

Goodness. All opinions are valid. When it comes to books, everybody is right, nobody is wrong.

54239 To check how it might look. If anybody wants to friend me or are already on my friends list (such as yourself, Robin). Then go to this book, Blood Eye.
I wrote two reviews a year or so apart, of two different editions of this book. You should see both reviews on it?? If my assumption is correct.

54239 With GR friends, they'll see both your reviews when they go to a book.

If you are talking about non GR friends, the review on the book that is the most popular (most likes) will show first in the line up.
If you haven't any or many likes, then, in my experience, the first review you wrote shows up before the second one.

54239 That depends.

Do you mean GR friends? or not GR friends?
54239 Hi Marilee,
This is the paper giveaways/freebies thread. You may want to share that one in the other thread in this folder that caters to ebooks. :)
54239 Hi Nick,
Welcome to A&M. Lovely to have you here.

You may have seen earlier in the thread, unfortunately for me, my library only had it in large text (the special edition for those with poor eyesight). I have a real problem reading big text as books read like a children's book to my brain.
I want to get to your book though. The feedback by those who read it have made me think it may be worth my while even though Roman fiction is not really up my alley. :)
I just have to psych myself up to reading it in large text!

RE giveaways
When they come up please feel free to mention them here in this group read thread (the group read may have finished, but the thread stays open forever and people will continue to post in it)...and/or post the giveaway in either thread in this folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
These are the two threads for giveaways, freebies and on sale books in either paper or audio or ebook. These threads get lots of visitors, so posting giveaways or sales in them is well worth the time.

Or, if you are unsure when the time comes, where you should post a giveaway or sale, you are always welcome to contact me and I can help you out.

Regards,
Terri

Hi Brian,
Just review a different edition of the book and mark that different edition as finished this year. Then you'll have two editions of the same book with two different ratings and reviews for it (or the same rating and review if that is the case).

54239 Hi Andy,
Sounds like something I will give a miss to. I am VERY squeamish about surgery. Emphasis definitely on the VERY!!!
