I love James Tiptree Jr (aka Alice Sheldon)
For me, the short story collection 'Her Smoke Rose Up Forever' is some of the most affecting science fiction I've ever read.
Also, there is an amazing biography called James Tiptree, Jr.: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon by Julie Phillips that is well worth checking out.
