Both sound so interesting that it isn't disappointing to have a tie! Now if I could only find the time to read them!
I may wait to read this one. It is not my usual genre and I haven't heard really positive things about it. There are so many other great books out there that I might have to pass on this one!
Wow, here's a genre that I might never read much of. I am just not into the biographies and memoirs!
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
So many of these look good! I am going to have to read more!
Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth's Last Days by Tim F. LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins
Only Left Behind here. I read the entire series though and thought they were fabulous! I am going to try Jeanette Oke, Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker soon.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
The Hobbitt by J.R.R. Tolkin
Watership Down by Richard Adams
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Mcguire
I liked most of these books. The Jordan series was really good!
TG for Nora Roberts! Otherwise I would only have read one of these books. I have only read the two Nora books (written as Nora). Romance is definitely not my thing!
I thought The Trench was just as good. The third one MEG Primal Waters was a bit silly but I still enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to reading the 4th one.
This is terrible to admit but I can't remember if I read Frankenstein or not. I took a history of science class in college called From Frankestein to Cloning but I can't remember if we read the whole book or just parts of it!
I thought this book was interesting but I do think some of Crichton's other books are much better written. I agree with William that it belongs more in the SciFi genre. Still a good "oldie" though!
Wonderful series! I enjoyed all three of them to date and there is a 4th book that is going to be released in the near future. I actually read The Trench while I was in labor with my son and what a wonderful diversion! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about a new series of giant shark books after reading Jaws and adoring it but Alten's books stand up on their own. The interaction between the humans and the sharks is interesting. There is a lot more going on in this book than to be expected. Meg is not just a giant killing machine!
I loved The Tell-Tale Heart and most of everything else I have ever read by Poe. I read this book in high school and was freaked out for days. I think this was my introduction into horror and what a way to begin! After that, horror was my thing. I may have to pick up Poe and reread soon. I miss his wonderful stories.
I have only read Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned. I loved Interview and thought the story was incredible. I liked the perspective and loved hearing about the conflicts between Louis and Lestat. Claudia was one of the freakiest characters from a book that I can remember. She fascinated me and scared me at the same time. Wonderful! As for the movie, I actually enjoyed it. Perhaps because I viewed it before I read the book! I have to go against the grain and say I liked Tom Cruise as Lestat! The little girl that played Claudia freaked me out as well! Creepy! I never did read anything else by Anne Rice. Maybe I will have to give some of her other stuff a try! At times, she felt a bit bogged down for me and after I read the first three vampire books I just couldn't go on!
This was a great read and the rest of the series just kept getting better. I love Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston. They may even be my favorite pair of authors! This book was 100 percent better than the movie. Pendergast's character was intriguing and I liked his role in the shadows. The creature was a fascinating diversion from your standard monster. I thought the female researcher was well-written for a female in horror. Not your standard weak, helpless chick. Overall, it was a great book!
Wow, this must be my thing. I love horror! So many great stories! I have read:
The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton
Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice
Jaws by Peter Benchley
The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe
MEG A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten
Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
The Ruins by Scott Smith
The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
Every one of these was a fantastic book and I can't wait to comment on them individually!
This book was fabulous!!! I read the entire series after watching the movie and I loved all of them except the last, Hannibal Rising. I just felt Hannibal Rising could have been written better.
As for The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter was phenomenal and his desire for a relationship with Clarice was eerie and endearing. Their slow evolution into a "pair" was enticing and irresistible. Throw in the mystery of the killer they are tracking down and the book was 5 stars all the way. I couldn't put it down no matter how much it scared me. Incredible!
I was quite indifferent after reading this book. After all of the hype, I guess I was expecting more. I thought having the little girl narrate from heaven was interesting but the point of view was really the only impressive part for me. I didn't care for the subject matter (how abhorring to see this as a movie) and I have to say I am not one to shy away from tough topics. Overall, it was a decent read but certainly not a great read to me!
